Australia The Terminator

Anyone picked this up? Wondering if we got the remastered transfer. Hope it looks good. On the back cover it also lists a Dolby Digital 2.0 track, so I'm wondering if they included the original mono track with the original sound effects.

Apparently the UK disc has no extras, but ours has a few listed on the back cover.

Yes it is the remastered transfer, and it does look great. The Dolby Digital 2.0 track listed on the back cover is in Portuguese. I didn't check the special features on the disc, but you are right, the back cover does say there is some. I'll put the disc back in a bit later and have a look at exactly what extras are on it for you.

UK disc has special features. Creating the Terminator: Visual Effects and Music, Terminator: A Retrospective and Terminated Scenes. Ours would be the same disc - don't recall Fox ever making separate AU discs available with difference features/specs.

As for the original mono - just ain't going to happen. People have been clamouring for it for years and still nothing. Others get a little "inventive" in achieving something with the mono audio...

I wondered about this also, but can't find a review of the remastered transfer on this site.

Cool, didn't know it was out yet.

Kind of disappointed with the Aus cover art. The UK one looks cooler I reckon

I didn't know the new Blu-Ray transfer of The terminator was released here. I've been looking in JB HI FI a lot lately including today, and I didn't see it anywhere, nor is it listed on their website. What stores is it available in?

Strange. Well it came out today right? Maybe they just hadn't put them on the shelves yet. It's on the JB site. There are 2 versions available. One with a booklet and one without.

I haven't been in a store lately though. I might go check mine tomorrow

Ahh my bad, when I initially thought the new Blu-Ray wasn't advertised on the JB website it was because I had assumed that we got the same cover art that the UK got, so I just guessed that the listings on the JB website were just re-packing jobs of the old crappy ported release. Still, I did not see any version of The Terminator on Blu in the actual store itself.

I kinda wish that JB would make their own Steelbook limited edition version of this release, I'd buy that in a flash!

You get the same artwork from the UK underneath the slip version

Yeah but you're paying $14 extra for it. The regular one is $15 when bought in the 2 for $30. Double the price for a slip and a booklet? Turn it up! (Or should that be "mark it up"? )

I'm going to try and se if I can get it for $15 :P. I know some really questionable iq girls who work at JB who wold think its the same as the standard version....but then I'll feel guilty.

Yes, but it shouldn't be too long before the slipcase version with the extra booklet comes down about 5 or $10 in price either in JB, on eBay or in some other store.

Okay I bought the regular version today, because the extra $14 for a slipcover and a booklet is ridiculous since I never look at booklets and usually throw slips in the bin anyway...

My verdict on the transfer?

I've seen the film on VHS and DVD, but it has never looked so crystal clear, sharp and detailed. I heard mumblings that the original Terminator Blu-ray was as good as the film is ever gonna look due to the limited source elements, but oh boy were they wrong.

The 5.1 audio didn't even bother me. Sure I'd love the 2.0 option, but it ain't a deal-breaker.

Great purchase!

Really wish they would of released a steelbook for this or even a digibook like the Jaws one, I hate slip cases. Looks like I'll grab the cheaper one tomorrow.
