Default linds_15's needs opinion on potential HT

im in uni right now and im getting a house next year and i wanna put in a mini home theatre, just looking for opinions on the setup i been thinking about

sony 40" v series bravia (considering the ve5, not quite sure)
psb 5.1 theatre in a box package
includes: 4 x Alpha LR
1 x Alpha CLR
1 x SubSeries 1 Subwoofer
i could also add an old image c60 centre chanel to the package

the receiver would be my dads old sony es 3300 from a couple years back
id also hookup my xbox and potentially a ps3 if things fall into place

As long as you are happy with it is what counts so when you go shopping make sure you audition the speakers & different brands they may have available also take along some movies & ask them to play them for you

would adding the image c60 as a centre channel be to powerful and drown out the sound of the alphas?

It's probably not the best center to use in this scenario. The Alpha LR's are really small. Level matching the three will help but in the end you would want the Image B25's for a proper match. These can be had for 300.00 a pair or less at many sites since the Image line has been updated.

In fact taking adavantage of all the deals on the old Image series is the best route to go. There is a huge difference in performance from the Image and Alpha series and it's well worth the extra money.

Investing in a proper front stage is one of the most important things you can invest in. I would skip the surrounds and sub for now and go this route and add the others later if money is a problem.

The Sub Series 1 is a pretty weak sub as well with little extension. Better subs can be had for the same price if not less that will offer better output and extension.

thanks for the input, being tight on money and a student the alpha 5.1 system seemed like a good fit, only reason id add in the image c60 is because its just there and i may as well use it

what would be some alternative subs? also how much do you think a set of 4 image b15s, or whatever the new ones are would run? psb.com pricing is way of from what ive seen in stores, and they only give package pricing

Not Very Familiar about the Set and Speakers you are referring to. But this Polk PSW10 may be in your price range 10 inch woofer and 3/4 inch MDF Sub Box.

Normally runs for $149.00 to $199.00. There are Better Subs, but you would be VERY Hard Pressed to find a New Sub for $99.00 with FREE Shipping to Be a Better Choice.

Its also a sub you can keep as you upgrade your other speakers overr time.
And (2) of these PSW10 Subs by Polk Perform Better then their Low Price Suggests.
