Exclamation Resident Evil 2 HD Remake Possible if fans want it!

Quote:
Resident Evil 6 will be released in less than a week and questions have already arisen about what would be next in the zombie franchise. Gamespot sat down with the developers of Resident Evil over at Capcom to find out and the response they got was both surprising and exciting.
According to Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Capcom would be inclined to remake Resident Evil 2 in HD if fans really wanted it.

"Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there's no rumor-mongering or things like that, no , we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now," said Hirabayashi. "But if fans really clamor for it; if there's a groundswell of support remaking that game, then I think that's something Capcom would take under consideration."

The good news is that Capcom is not new to remaking games. In 2002, they gave the Nintendo Gamecube a remake of the original Resident Evil that included new gameplay elements, environments, and even new story elements. The game's visuals were among the best of the time and the game remains the standard in terms of tone and mood.

The game was well received and regarded by critics. Electronic Gaming Monthly even bestowed the "Game of the Month" award for the Month of February.
Resident Evil 2 is one of the most critically beloved Resident Evil games ever made. The game takes place in Raccoon City and lets gamers play as Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they try to escape the zombie ridden city with young Sherry Birkin, the daughter of T-Virus creator William Birkin. Fans have been clamoring for a return to the days of survival horror, but a remake brings up an interesting question: Would Capcom keep the same gameplay engine used for Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6, or would they return to the fixed angles gameplay that dominated the first Resident Evils? The current system has drawn the wrath of fans because of its emphasis on action, but most would agree that it is the better control setup. The original control setup was dubbed the "tank" due to ccharacter's slow and awkward movement.

How could they NOT be thinking about this? In an era of HD remasters, having a Resident Evil 2 HD version seems like a no brainer.

Yes! Easily my favorite game of the series. I still bust out my N64 copy at least once a year.

I hope they don't make it like the newer games. I just want upgraded visuals.

Those are in an entirely different league. HD remasters are cheap, quick ports. A remake is an almost entirely new game.

This was a pretty stupid comment for the devs to make IMO. RE2 is regarded by many as one of the best games in the series (and by many as the best). It would be like James Cameron saying that they would consider a sequel to Avatar if people liked the first one

They already know there's a huge demand for a proper remake. Why tease people just to generate internet buzz?

Oh wait--I just remembered. It's Capcom. They haven't known or listened to their fans in years...and besides, their idea of a remake would be to combine Leon & Claire's campaign into one co-op based story lmao because that's what they think their fans want

Resident Evil 2 fan creates RE4-style remake

Quote:
A Resident Evil 2 fan has recreated key sections of Capcom's classic survival horror to play like Resident Evil 4.

Gone are the original game's fixed camera angles - replaced instead by the 3D environments seen in the RE2 sections of Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (thanks, Game Informer).

Budding programmer Rod Lima borrowed environments and character models from Capcom's on-rails Wii shooter, then patched in new inventory and weapon systems.

Sound effects and cutscenes from the original Resident Evil 2 have also been merged in.

The original Resident Evil was remade for the GameCube but - despite several digital re-releases - Resident Evil 2 has never been actively updated. The sections re-creating some of its events in Darkside Chronicles are the closest Capcom has come to returning to the game.

It's unclear if Lima will work further on the project - at the moment it seems he has no plans to convert the entire game.

"I'm not planning on do a Resident Evil 2 remake, (there's already other groups taking it serious). I made this only to see some codes actually working. And as the result was good, I decided to do a video. Just that," he said.

"I was fooling around with Darkside Chronicles animations. I started doing some basic moves, did some inventory HUD, some inventory weapons... Anyway it is pretty good. I'm not planning on do something big, but is fun to walk around on Raccoon City, RE4 style."

Wow, he's done a good job! Though if they do remake Resi 2, then I would prefer the used the original fixed camera view/control scheme. I know people feel that perspective is outdated, but I think that those people underestimate how much that added to the tension of the game.

I agree about the fixed camera views/angles. It's one of the many things that I loved about the first three Resident Evil games. It added to the suspense because in many various parts of the games you never knew what to encounter, unless you heard sounds from the monsters, like the lickers hissing.

Haven't played Resi Archives, hadn't even heard of it until you mentioned it. Doesn't appear to be playable on the PS3 though (my only console) so no chance of playing it, but judging by screen caps, it does appear to be fixed camera angles, yeah.

Absolutely man, and they were deliberately framed and distorted so that each corner was unnerving.

Ah the sound..a remake of RE 2 with DTS HD 5.1 would be out of this world. The sound for the old games were wonderfully mixed for their time. An update would no doubt be immersive.
