Default looking at getting an iPod touch, but a few questions

hey everyone, im starting this thread because sadly, my 160 GB ipod classic has finally bit the dust after years of faithful service. i am trying to decide what to do now.

the last time i talked to someone at the apple store i think i remember him telling me that i could trade in the broken model and get credit towards a refurbished or new product, so now im just looking for some info to help me decide what to get. the ipod touch looks pretty cool, but a couple questions

if i remember right, with the touch i can stream directly from my itunes library on my home computer, so i wont need a very big hard drive, is this true? and if so, how does it handle streaming video files? i watch a lot of movies and tv on my ipod if im on the treadmill or bike at the gym, and when im taking long trips, so i need it to be able to steam video well

and ive read a few reviews saying that it is very fragile when it comes to condensation, people writing reviews on amazon have made claims that even sitting it near a bottle of water, or getting a drop of sweat on it while working out, or going from hot to cold temperatures too quickly will break the screen and trip the moisture sensor inside voiding the warranty, had anyone had any first hand experience with this, and are these legit complaints, or just user error?

finally, has anyone heard or have any information about maybe a new generation of regular ipods coming out soon that i might want to wait for, or should i just go find something new now?

thanks in advance for your help!

I've had my touch since they came out. I got the first 16gb that came out. No issues. Well one but that was when I jailbroke it. After I went back to the normal firmware I didn't have any problems.

I use it for jogging and it's in my pocket the whole time. Never had any issues. I have a screen protector and a silicon case.

Last year it was September 9. Immediately after the announcement the items will be available to buy on Apple's site. I bought mine the day of the announcement last year and got it on September 10 with free next day shipping. Not sure if free next day shipping is normal or if it was just a special deal.

My iphone works quite well on wi-fi... but not so good on 3g... which wouldn't be a problem for the touch. I use Orb for streaming media. The PC server is free... and can also be accessed from any online PC for free. The app for the iphone/touch is $10.... but there is a free version that you can DL to make sure it works for you and that you like it.

do you ever stream video on it? i think that would be the real question that determines how big of a hard drive i want to get, because if it doesnt do video well, then ill get a bigger HD and just store video on it and stream the audio, but if it can stream video well, then ill get the smaller model and just keep a few essential things on it

Just an idea, but buy a nice case for it. 2 of my friends had them, 1 dropped it like 3 ft and scratched the screen, the other left his in a car in the winter and that somehow killed his hard drive?? Just be gentle with it i guess!

Yes.... sorry I should have been more specific. I was speaking about video in that response. Music streams just fine via wi-fi or 3G, as do many of my lower quality music videos. Higher bitrate videos struggle on 3g... but do just fine via wi-fi. I can always tell if the power has gone out at my house, or my computer has installed an update and restarted, when my Orb is not reachable from my iPhone

Movies can eat up a chuck of the hard drive pretty easily. I have 4 movies and 1 TV episode on my Touch and it takes up 5 GB. I have a 16 GB Touch but I only have around 800 songs so I'm only using up about half my hard drive. I can understand though that some people want to keep lots of movies and thousands of songs and that 32 GB isn't enough for that. I would expect them to at least double the hard drive when they release a new version.
