Default why do i need the volume so high?

This is an issue I had with the old family HD TV and now with my nice Sony BD/TV... many BDs I have to bring to a volume of 40-50 to hear it nicely as to where TV shows I dont usually need to do this... is there a way to fix this?
Thanks!

Are you watching your Blu's through your PS3? if so there is an advance option for volume. i watch my movies at +1, maybe try adjusting that option?

try watching them in 2.0 (ex. Dolby Digital 2.0) format rather that whatever uncompressed options (DTS-HD or DolbyTrueHD) maybe available on the disc. Perhaps since you're just playing through your TV speakers this more dedicated format will help the sound.
I'm guessing there's not a surround sound system hooked up to your TV (for shame! )
Maybe this will help.

Try turning on dynamic noise compression. I know, I know. It sounds like a travesty. But your TV's speakers aren't really designed for an uncompressed dynamic range.

I have the same trouble as you since I don't have a HT right now. I usualy pic the option for sound 2.0, that usualy bring the sound level to something a bit more normal.

yes true some of them are no longer offering that option, it make sense cause truly only a few of us actualy dont have a good HT system for the sound. I will fix that one day

Just make sure that if you go the HTIB route , That it will do everything you want it to do . That way you won't regret it later .

I am running a Sony Bravia TV with a Sony BD player... is it best to match everything up??

EDIT: so the second one says it is wireless speaker ready and they are not included... I will still be able to add it later?

I'd stay away from the 5200 as it does not handle HD codecs.

I live in a an 800sq. ft. condo and I've been building up my system for over a year now. TV, blu-ray and HD cable came first. Then nothing for a year while I planned and saved. On Boxing Day (for us Canucks on here) I got a great deal on a Denon AVR-2310CI receiver. Planning on purchasing a 2.1 setup shortly involving Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers and a sub within 3 months. After that I'll add a center and 2 surrounds. I'm not going to be in this condo forever and I'd like to have something that's more than I need for now, and not have to purchase all new later.

There are however some great HTiB setups around. A friend of mine picked up an Onkyo 7.1 HTiB also on Boxing Day, heard it on New Years and wow, great sound. But I'm very happy with my plans. It's obviously personal preference, but just be sure with what you're looking at for HTiB before buying because a year or 2 down the road, you may want more power and would have to start all over. Just be sure first, make sure you listen to them before you buy, and if you have blu-ray now, be sure it'll do all the HD codecs you want....you'll regret it in the future if it doesn't. Either way you go, good luck and hopefully you find one that will make you very happy!

Good advice !
I started with A HTIB & it only lasted 6 months before I bought A receiver , Fronts , & center . Then I bought A sub & then surrounds . I still keep adding to it to this day , Probably because I'm crazy

What exactly are you looking to do ? Do you just want something better than your TV speakers are do you want to get the most out of your blurays as far as audio goes?

this is what I hate... I dont know how to check codecs... and I really like that Sammy but am not sure its a good choice... I mean a 7.1 with 7 speaksers and a sub sounds like plenty to me... right?
