Is there a doctor in the house? At the eerie House of Frankenstein, the answer is “yes” – and he’s out to make right the experiment in playing God that’s doomed his family for generations.

There’s also a Karloff in the house, a fact that makes 1958’s Frankenstein 1970 a must-see for savvy fright fans. Twenty-seven years after scaring the daylights out of everyone as the lumbering monster in Frankenstein, Boris Karloff is at the other end of the laboratory switches and gizmos. He’s Dr. Victor Frankenstein, an aging, hulking shambles of dignity and menace who agrees to let a TV crew shoot a horror flick at the family castle. The crew members don’t know it yet, but they’re just what the doctor ordered: fresh body parts, ready for harvesting!

Well, probably at the bottom of Karloff titles I'd like to see from Warner but I guess any Karloff is better than none.

Much as I love Frankenstein films and Karloff (hell, I even love b&w CinemaScope), can't say I'm a big fan of FRANKENSTEIN 1970 (it's really rather dull). Still, I have the Karloff & Lugosi Horror Classics DVD set from 2009 and this film looked especially good; a remastered Blu should look stellar...and here's hoping THE WALKING DEAD from that aforementioned set gets a Blu release at some point.

Between THE BODY SNATCHER and the impending releases of THE STRANGE DOOR and the Scream Karloff & Lugosi set, it's a great time to be a fan of dear old Boris and classic horror; I'm certainly happy for fans of this particular film.

Cool. The more Karloff the merrier. Though I would have liked You'll Find Out.

The movie being made within this movie looks better than the movie itself. Still, for all it's shortcomings, this is an enjoyable 50s horror flick I've always been fond of.
First saw it at the drive-in. ALL-NITE FRANKENFEST. Frankenstein Created Woman/Frankenstein Conquers The World/Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter/Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster/Frankenstein 1970.

When I think of some of the outstanding Karloff films under Warner Brother's control I
have to wonder why they chose the least of them. Frankenstein 1970 is pathetic.
Sub-par. Less than a Monogram. It doesn't even have the schlock value of an Ed Wood
although it's just as bad. I don't enjoy this film. It's a "point-the-camera-and-shoot"
instead of a dramatic mise en scène. There's not much story here, and what little
there is kindergarten-obvious and stretched out way too long.

Karloff created some memorable characters and faces in some good films at WB. Where's

1936 The Walking Dead
1937 West of Shanghai
1938 The Invisible Menace
1939 Devil's Island

Why would they put Frankenstein 1970 ahead of better films?

Well, I'm NOT buying it.
The direction and stage business put Karloff at a disadvantage.
The camera doesn't flatter him, it makes him look bad.

Frankenstein 1970 was probably ready to go. They had to make a new master for the DVD release as the movie had never been available in 16x9 OAR before.
The older fullscreen movies could be tossed out on DVD with existing SD masters. Probably only SD masters exists for the others you mentioned.

It's like you've never read the Warner Archives thread haha

My best guess in regards to what order WA puts out a release is they rent out an indoor football stadium, layout all their movie posters on the field, then someone drops a dart from the rafters and whatever it lands on is next. That's about as much sense as you're going to get... Or maybe they put the posters in the stadium seats and use a t-shirt cannon, whatever movie gets the t-shirt get their Blu-ray debut!

Either way, it's Karloff so I'm getting it when they have another 4 for $44 sale.

Because for some bizarre reason WAC basically ignores their films from before 1950. There are at least a few exceptions from the 1940's, but in the nearly 7 years that WAC has been doing blu-ray there is literally almost nothing at all from the 1930's.

I'm sure plenty are on DVD, but for whatever reason they must not see them worthy of blu-ray.
