Default The Official Sony STR-DG920 Receiver Thread

Sony STR-DG920

sony str 920 front.jpg

I can get this for under $400. Just wondering if there are any reasons to pass other than anti-Sony bias?

I have the STR-DG820 and think it's great. The only different feature the 920 has over the 820 is that it upscales analog sources as well. For the price and 4 HDMI inputs you can't go wrong

I'm very happy with my 820 (using it with Paradigms). I didn't need the features of the 920-I think you will find it able to do everything you want. Great price!

Thanks everybody. I'm still torn between the 920 and waiting to see if I could get a good deal on an ES unit.

My prediction was that somebody would quickly come in and say "get the Onkyo 606" well I wasn't far off.

Is there such thing as Anti-Sony bias? I've been buying their stuff for 20 years and haven't seen anything that was sub-par, particularly as you go up the chain of models. I've got the 820 as well. I think it is a very high quality unit and can't see why the 920 would in any way be a lesser model. Sounds like you're getting a hell of a deal for it too.

While the anti-Sony bias may exist somewhere out there, I would certainly question the judgment of anyone who simply says "I don't buy Sony." While they may or may not be what someone considers the best, one can always do much, much worse.

onscreen gui is the reason i would get the 920 over the 820 and the upscaling

Hello And Merry Christmas To All !!

Was Wondering The Main Difference Between The 2 Recievers ??
The 820 Is Rated At 1.0 % THD And The 920 Is 1.0 % THD....
Is It The Analog Outputs/Inputs On The 920 As Opposed To The 820 ?? Don't Think I Need Them For The Following Setup ??

I Will Be Using ,
Sony STRDG820
Sony BD350 Player
Poineer DVD-Audio-SACD Player
Infinity 5.1 TSS-1100's
Does This Sound Like A Good Setup And A Workable Sound System ??

So Whats The Extra $100 For ??

Thanks In Advance ! Any And All Responses Are GREATLY Appreciated !!
Merry Christmas To You And Yours :-) May It Be The BEST One Yet !!
Peace And Harmony,

Step-up features on the STR-DG920:

Upscales analog signals up to 1080p over its HDMI output
Features icon-driven menu system, possibly similar to what we've seen on the STR-DA5300ES
Supports x.v.Color and Deep Color
Available in June for about $600
The nicest step-up is the upscaling to HDMI, only one cable going to the TV. The GUI and the famous Sony Multichannel Blue Light are nice too.

I have the 920 and love it...
