Default Does the PS3 give off wi-fi?

Hello, I have a strange question and not sure how to ask it but I currently have two ps3s at two different locations. One being my apartment and then one being my house and I have been noticing on my itouch and now I notice it on my computer, I can look for wireless networks and I always see a strong signal from my PS3 I assume. I'm at home and right now it says PS3-3719771, I use wi-fi at my house but at my apartment there are too many routers around so I just use ethernet but I get something very similar even with the PS3 plugged in. It says it's a secure connection, I'm wondering what would is this giving off and what could the password be. I'm hoping that maybe I can use that pocket-blu app with it at my apartment since I do not use wi-fi there, hopefully someone can let me in on the info. Thanks, Joe.

I'm not aware of the PS3 actually broadcasting as a wi-fi. I have a wireless network in my house, and the PS3 taps into it. If you turn the PS3 off (even unplug it) does your itouch and computer still see the PS3-37199771? I'm wondering if a) you set the PS3 up on your network so your computer will see it and this is its ID, or b) a neighbor also setup a wireless network and named the network PS3-37199771? In that case, your computer would find the network but would only be able to access if you have the password (if your neighbor security-enabled it).

A). Well, the PS3 isn't on, I guess it's on stand by mode, red light on it.

B). No it definitely isn't someone else's network, I'm pretty secluded here, my network is named whatever Verizon named it, bunch of different letters so it's not that.

I see it on both of my ps3's, just started noticing it when I was using my itouch. Like I said, at my apartment, which I'm not at now, I use a wired connection but my itouch still picks up my PS3 as a secured network.

Is the remote play option turned on on your ps3's? Because it has to have some way to communitcate with the psp, so I think that might be what your seeing. Just a guess though

I believe it can become an access point, since Remote Play and ad-hoc Party use that functionality.

Your itouch would need software built into it to perform the task your asking about. Only Sony have written software for the PSP to do that function.

With the PSP you need to partner the PSP > PS3 to perform remote play. So somehow your itouch would need a signature the PS3 can recognize to do what your asking.

My PS3 shows up on my network like yours. Some long number. Its supposed to do that.
