Slec's HT mess

Due to a job transfer I'm moving to Newport News, VA from RI. We're buying a house, but it's much smaller than the one we are in now. Eventually we'll be doing an addition, which is when I will really fight to put in some sort of Rec room/Home theater. Here's my setup for the next couple days, then everything will be boxed up and moved.



Gone will be the large living room. The new place has a much more open floor plan, but everything is so much smaller and despite my best efforts, I cannot use the dining room as an extension of the living room .

Next week or the week after, maybe some people can help out with ideas on setting up the room. Once we're in, I'll take pictures. The pics I have now have staged furniture.

New House Setup:
The new place has a tv mounted above the fireplace with built-in bookcases/cabinets beside it. My current Surrounds (Klipsch RB-35's) will have to suffice for now, and I don't think the towers are going to work as fronts any longer. The LR area will be about 20' x 12' but that includes the front door and entrance. 15' or 16' by 12 may be all that's usable (with the fireplace and bookcase setup taking up one of the 12' walls).

Hey Slec how are you doing buddy? It's great to see you in this part of the forum. Good luck with the move. BTW, the footy thread has been kinda slow lately.

What's going on Eric! You have a thread over here? I'll have to check it out. Can't remember if I've seen your gear, but I know the list always has me salivating.

I noticed the footy thread has been a bit quiet. I'm watching everything on DVR delay because of the move. I'm commuting 600 miles away to my job, packing and getting ready to move out on weekends... been crazy. I finally watched the last 2 Arsenal matches today! As a result I haven't read up on anything because I don't want spoilers... Has anything been going on?

edit: Your setup is amazing... great job! Can't imagine how it actually sounds!

Until I bought house my back in 2003, I used to move a lot but within a few miles not like your current move. I can't imagine how crazy that would be.

About footy, nothing new really. Chelsea is perfect so far and have an unbelievable goal difference. Your Gunners seem to be doing well. United OTOH, is doing the usual "doing it the hard way" by dropping points early in the season.

What's goin on Crazy!!! I actually peeked into your thread recently to see what updates you've been working on. It's what gave me the thought to go ahead and put up something in the Gallery section. You're my muse! Your stuff is still rocking. Do you have the backdrop up all the time, or just when the projector is on?

I'm constantly watching audiogon for the 9NT's to see if any on the east coast come up for sale. They don't. It's always your neck of the woods or Nebraska. New place, new setup = new listening needs to be done

Once I'm done doing some reading on footy, maybe I'll pop my head in the thread.

It's the part of the move my wife and I are most excited about. We usually make it back for 2 games a year. It's still a haul 7-8 hrs, but much better than 15! Can't wait for this weekend! Go Tigers!

I didn't know you're interested in the 9NT's. I've seen them as low as $1000. In your new place maybe the 1NT's are a better fit?

Those the bookshelf version? I've only really looked into towers for fronts prior to this. Maybe an occasional listen here and there, but that's it.

Yeah they're bookshelfs. I have a pair for surrounds. For 2-ch listening they can hold their own. For a 5.1 setup in a "mellow" environment they can be good for fronts.

Thanks! That's saying something, coming from you! We're excited about the move, just need to figure out where everything will go. I like the idea of getting out and looking for new speakers! don't know if the wife does though

Hi Chris,

Good luck with the move. Sorry, that I won't get to see you up in the RI area for the Art Shows like the Scituate Art Festival this coming Columbus Day Weekend.

I hope that with the transfer you possibly received a promotion and/or raise in pay.

But, sorry that the new house will be so much smaller and not afford the space for the home theater until the addition.
