USA Vincent Van Gogh blu-ray

Vincent Van Gogh Blu-ray

Does anybody have this here?
B&N has it for $6.64
looks like maybe a documentary
I love Van Gogh's paintings but have no idea about this blu-ray, there are no user reviews on here or Amazon.

I'll be getting this as another huge fan of van Gogh's work! Not only that, I was born in the same province from whence he hailed! So the historic element has even greater appeal!

I've only seen some of his work on TV, but I like what he does.

This is great news so perhaps someone will get on the ball and release the film starring Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn - "Lust for Life!"

I'd prefer it if the studios would do a remake of it, as oppsed to yet another version of A Star is Born... geez, talk about a dead horse.

The "someone" would have to be Warner. I hope they will release it soon.

I bought this for all of $5 on the Amazon Marketpklace (NOTE: We previously had the DVD version linked for purchase, I have altered it to reflect the Blu-ray, which is indeed $5.99 at Best Buy, where the DVD is $9.99).

This is the Dutch documentary Vincent Van Gogh: Een leven voor de kunst (A Life Devoted to Art) (2009). I have only scanned the disc just now, so I will report more when I have watched it. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong for $5.99 though.

This is not some random Van Gogh showcase disc, but a wonderful documentary from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, which is full of fascinating information about the artist and his life and works. Razor Digital's artwork says nothing to this effect on the front cover, and their back cover is littered with specification errors. For example, the presentation is 1080i29.970 (not 1080p) and the audio is Dolby Digital 2.0, not Dolby Digital 5.1 as stated.

The documentary is presented in Dutch (with portions of English), but the default is to play the English track with the English subtitles. Oddly, the English subtitles are timed to the English audio track, and while the English narration is quite good, the Dutch-language interviews have been dubbed somewhat unappealingly. Thankfully, other than some small timing errors, the subtitles appear to translate the Dutch audio track perfectly. The English subtitles cover the whole documentary, including where English is spoken.

There is a caveat. One interviewee speaks in English, and the English subtitles are somewhat poor here, as if a non-native English speaker was transcribing her comments. The Dutch segments, which make up about 95% of the documentary, appear error-free.

A second, larger caveat, while DUB tracks have been provided in French, German, Italian and Spanish, these DUBs only cover the narration, and not the interviews. That's right, the English DUB is the only track to have the Dutch-language interviews dubbed over, and since there are only English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) subtitles, French, German, Italian and Spanish speakers who can't read English or Chinese subtitles will be out of luck with this release.

Razor Digital lists a 28-minute extra, "In-depth analysis of Vincent Van Gogh's Painting Styles", which is nowhere to be found. Instead, we have what is essentially a 15 minute bonus segment, which could be considered a coda to the documentary, in that is details the journey of Van Gogh's oeuvre from his death up until today. The same audio and subtitle specifications apply to the extra.

Rounding out the extras is a photo gallery of less than one minute.

I would love to see Vincent 1987 with narration of Van Gogh's letters.
