USA Public Enemies or District 9????

I have District 9 preordered but I just saw the commercial for Public Enemies. So to people that have seen both movies, which one is a better blind buy???

District 9 by far, and I am one of the few (seemingly) that liked Public Enemies

District 9 was awesome! Haven't seen Public Enemies, though. I heard it wasn't all that great.

Public Enemies is way better.

Public Enemies will go down as a really good action movie like Collateral or Heat.

District 9 is an Ok Sci-Fi movie, nothing ground breaking. Its 20 minutes too long and trust me some of my favorite movies are 3 or 4 hours plus. But the story gets quite thin at some points.

Public Enemies is a great film but District 9 is phenomenal. D9 is the must-have. And I'm a big fan of Michael Mann too.

I'm in for both movies because they are two different genres.

Public Enemies is another great crime drama by Michael Mann. District 9 was the a great entry from an unknown director and cast that put Sci-Fi back on top, atleast for me it did.

Public Enemies was a huge disappointment. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale usually pick projects with something truly genuine to offer. This did not even come close to delivering. After it was over, first thing that I literally thought in my head was "I'm glad they got paid for their time, because they didn't get paid for their work." I'm wondering if they chose this project as a test run for the potential of them working together on the next Batman film... not that there has been anything official announced. But, with rumours so strong and the public favouring the idea of Johnny Depp as Riddler, this would have been a good opportunity for both actors to "test the waters."

Bottom line is that I'm glad I saw Public Enemies. It was an entertaining enough film to be worth the time and money for 1 viewing. However, I will not watch it again. District 9 on the other hand will have numerous visits to my PS3 drive over the next 10 years. It is a truly inspiring piece of Science Fiction that really offers a substance of topics and themes to keep your perspective on social issues fresh. It is still sitting in my #1 Film Of 2009 spot until I see AVATAR. That is the only contender that I can see challenging District 9 this year.

I really liked both flicks, but would say that District 9 is likely the safer bet. I will be picking up both bluray steelbooks here in Canada.

I would have to say I prefer District 9, though I'll probably get both.

Public Enemies is a waste of talent. District 9 is engaging and always entertaining.

You must not have seen many movies this year if its your favorite movie. District is a cheap rip off of different movies about South Africa, except they replaced Blacks with Aliens. Yes there is a message in it but I wouldn't take it so far, as you have. This was a scifi action flick masquerading as a thoughtful movie, well if you compare it Transformers it might be, but overall its just an average movie.

Public Enemies was exactly what the trailer promised, not sure what you were expecting This movie was pure Michael Mann. I don't why you are complaining about the actors. This movie would have probably the exact same film shot for shot if it was DiCaprio instead of Depp.

I would say if you want to watch a good movie in terms of filmmaking, style and performances get Public Enemies because it has many layers.

If you wanna just hang out for a few hours with a few beers and a couple of friends and just chill, get District 9.

Obviously its all objective , so this is just my opinion.

Apples to oranges here. I have seen District 9 and loved it. However, I am still going to blind-buy Public Enemies since I love the story on Dillinger, and Depp as an actor.
