Default Problem with receiver, or ps3, or i dunno...

I have a problem, and im not sure where its coming from, when i watch blu rays i notice that i hear crackling sounds, i noticed it alot in leon, and have notice it other movies too, well alot of movies, but no issues when playing games or blasting my music of my ps3
i have a ps3 slim, hooked up to a sony str dg720 by hdmi
i have tried to bitstream the audio instead of lpcm, to see if there was a difference, and there wasnt
i tried switching around hdmi cables and receiver slots to see if there was a difference, but there wasnt
but then i hook up a digital optical cable from my ps3 to receiver and sent the audio through that, the problem went away?....
what do u think the problem lies with? ps3 or receiver?
im hoping its my receiver because im planning on getting a new one anyway
i just got my ps3, i would exchange it, but ive had it over the exchange time
same with receiver
any thoughts?
any questions feel free to ask
thanx

I'm not certain what could cause that. Are you playing music in surround or in 2-channel? If the music in 2 channel has no crackling, it must be the surrounds giving you the problem. I would double check the connections for the surrounds.

im playing the music in surround(multi channel), no issue

but yea i came up with a idea, im gonna get my friend to bring over his ps3, and if the problem still happens then i guess it would be my ps3
he has the same receiver as me so im gonna take my ps3 too his house as well

I have the same receiver and I have been having problems where the video and sound would go out for like a second and then come back... I'm thinking it's the receiver cause so far with the ps3 hooked right to the TV no problems.

Default Crackling

Yes, it definitely sound like a problem with your receiver's HDMI inputs. It may be time for a new one !!

The Sony STR-DG720 only accepts LPCM signals for Uncompressed audio and therefore cannot take a bitstream signal. When it does get a bitstream signal it will convert it to a standard Dolby Digital or DTS lossy signal.

You have to send the signal out as LPCM.

It could be that you are pushing the receiver to hard and therefore you are causing it to distort. The amp in the 720 and 820 are not very big amps or power supplies and therefore you could be pushing it to its distortion point.
