wrigley, I don't know much about the Yamaha sound or the 665, but I do know the member, Talstarone has one. If you don't find yoruself getting too many replies, you could send him a PM. I know for a fact, he would easily help you out and give you a ton of info on it.

Bench tests on the Sony DN-1000 just came out and they were pretty decent for the entry mid-level receiver. It may be one you want to look at too. Better then the Pioneer and Yamahas, about the same as you would expect from Onkyo. The one draw back is the lack of Pre-outs, but only you know if you will ever need them. If you are ever going to buy hi-end speakers then I would get them. However the 765 you should be looking at.

Thanks,

I'm teetering because I can get the Onkyo 707 for $599.00. The $200.00 looks better in my pocket and I'm not sure if the Onkyo is worth $200.00 more than the Yamaha 665.

I have the pioneer 819, buddy has the 1019, basically no complaints for either... 819 is a 5.1 w/pre outs for expansion. Ipod integrated USB... easy to set up, plenty of power...

FWIW...

Accessories4less.com has the Marantz SR5003 listed again at $449. If I were you I would jump all over it. IMO you can't do any better for the money. It's well worth the extra $50 over the Yamaha 665.

the Marantz SR5003 is indeed a good deal.....I was thinking about getting it, but honestly don't know if I trust refurb and dunno if I will ever really need pre-outs.....

I listened to the Onkyo 607 and Denon 1610 and 1910 in a Magnolia at a BB and the Denon puts the Onkyo's to shame imo

EDIT:: Also I've read in several areas of AVSForum that the SR5003 can't use Audyssey settings while Processing HD Audio. It can use the settings while having audio sent PCM but not when its being Bitstreamed

Dunno how big of a deal that is to the OP but thats one thing to consider. Didn't bother me cause i use a PS3 Fat to play Blus. Plus I've heard also the marantz sounds better with the Audyssey turned off anyways.

So now I'm deciding between the Denon 590/1610 for 379 Denon 1910/790 for 549 and the Marantz SR5003 for 449

The refurbs are refurbished and certified by the factory (Marantz) and quite a few people here have them and have never had any problems with them.

So you went there and picked it up? Very nice.....the best part is it has pre-outs on the back, so you can always add an external amp later on. I would post your new addition in the Yamaha Receivers Thread....congrats!
