Default The Last Full Measure

Quote:
Jeremy Irvine, Ethan Russell, Zach Roerig and Cody Walker have joined the cast of Todd Robinson’s military drama “The Last Full Measure.”

Todd Robinson is directing the movie from his own script. Production has been wrapped in Atlanta and is moving to Thailand where the younger cast members will spend a week in boot camp to prepare for battle while studying the recently shot footage of their older counterparts.

Previously announced cast includes: Ser’Darius Blain, William Hurt, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Fonda, Amy Madigan, Christopher Plummer, John Savage, Bradley Whitford and Michael Imperioli.

Stan portrays a Pentagon investigator who reluctantly teams with veterans of the 1966 Operation Abilene to convince Congress to award the Medal of Honor to a courageous Air Force medic, William Pitsenbarger, who is seen saving the lives of over 60 Marines ambushed in one of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War. As the battle waged on, and after the last helicopter left, he continued to save lives until his own was sacrificed.

Irvine will play Pitsenbarger. Russell will play a young version of Hurt’s character, while Roerig plays a young version of Harris’ character. Walker — the younger brother of the late Paul Walker — is portraying the young version of Savage’s character.

This looks really low budget and corny. Hope I'm wrong.

Well meaning and obviously with a good cast, but pretty inert as a movie. Goes for all the obvious beats, and feels more like a streaming movie than theatrical (the difference in production values is crystal clear when you compare the wars scenes in this to movies like Hacksaw Ridge and 1917 for instance).

This movie is actually getting decent reviews on RT. Wasn't expecting that at all.

I liked this film. Given the subject matter it easily pulls at your heart but I did not feel manipulated for one second. I found it to be genuine in its treatment. The cast is full of veteran actors who each get their moment to shine and do so nicely, with Plummer a particular standout. If you go, stay through the first part of the credits as you will see outtakes from interviews that were done with the real life people that are portrayed in the film. They are as moving as the film itself.

Also of note: The above poster shows Grant Gustin (of TV's The Flash fame) in the cast but he was replaced in the role of Pitsenbarger by Jeremy Irvine and did not appear in the film; not sure why Gustin left the project.
