Default avchd archive/backup -retrieve choices?

I've searched, but can't find the answer to my question,,,

I have a Sony HDR XR500 and the Sony PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software that allows me to burn the camera HD content to a blu ray disc.

It goes pretty quick so I'm 'assuming' it does not render it, and it goes onto the disc in the same AVCHD format - true?

So what do I want to do - - I want to be able to archive/backup the AVCHD files from my camera, then have the capability to retrieve them later BACK to the computer in case I want to re-edit them into something (for now, I'm using Vegas movie studio platinum 9.0 as my editor).

any help appreciated

Any Camera you hook up to a USB port will show up as a device.
click start, then click on, Computer, look for the camera in the device window.
then keep clicking on all folders until you find your *.m2ts file
then drag and drop it to your Hard drive.

thanks

I have no problem downloading it all to the hardrive, or to burn it to a blu ray DVD using the picture motion browser software etc - but what I want to do, is find a way to take it back off of the blu ray disc in the future...

Burn it to a blu-ray as a "data disk" not a "video disk" then you could get it back off whenever you want it.

Even a Blu ray disc will have the full m2ts movie file in it, you have to look for it.

While this is true doing it as a "data disk" will remove the authoring step from the process and he will just have a disk full of m2ts files, although not in the proper file structure to be used on anything but the PC. From the OP's post it sounded like this is what he was looking for.
