Default The Better of Two Movies

We often see wo movies come out at similar times with seemingly similar plots or genres and people tend to be divided between these movies. I thought we could share out opinions as there seem to be a few threads about individual instances.

My opinion on a couple:
Dante's Peak > Volcano
Finding Nemo > Shark Tale
The Prestige > The Illusionist
A Bug's Life > Antz

Agree/disagree, other films where this happened?

How about Armageddon and Deep Impact? Those are the two I see mentioned most often.

I love Armageddon but thought Deep Impact was just ok (not bad though).

I haven't seen both of any of the comparisons you mentioned so I can't say what I think about those. I saw Volcano, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and The Prestige (one of my favorite films).

Haven't seen Shark Tale. Heard it's good, but I doubt it's better than Nemo, so I'm with ya on that one.

I love Armageddon, but also remember liking Deep Impact, haven't seen it in a long time though. Can't really think of any other movies that are similar

Iron Man and The Dark Knight (Incredible Hulk got left out ) were compared quite a bit as well last year.

Of the two (or three) The Dark Knight definitely wins out for me, it is a much better film imo. Incredible Hulk also takes the spot over Iron Man for me as well.

And I believe Terminator Salvation and Transformers 2 were being compared before the release of both. Terminator Salvation wins the match up there for me...easy. MUCH better movie than Transformers 2.

i don't think watchmen, dark knight and iron man are similar other than being about superheroes

how about
matrix>equilibrium
dark city ? thirteenth floor (i don't know which one to choose)
deep impact>armageddon (not that i absolutely love deep impact but armageddon just doesn't do it for me)

I haven't seen the illusionist but I intend to do it. The Prestige is a fantastic movie, chris nolan is one of the best director imo

Matrix>Equilibrium I don't know which I like better, Matrix is the better film from an objective POV, IMO, BTW, but I do very much so enjoy Equilibrium.

Deep Impact=Armageddon I have not seen Deep Impact in a really long time and only once so I have to watch it again but neither are any good to me.

Terminator Salvation>Transformers 2 I wouldn't really compare the two since they both come from established franchises that did not originally compete. Very different movies but Salvation was much better IMO.

I haven't seen Master and Commander but I guess they did come out at the same time. Maybe I will rent that at some point.

Prefontaine (1997) or Without Limits (1998)? I had only seen Prefontaine and it was good.

Craig isn't the way Bond used to be, and so isn't his movies. Unless you can't handle the confusing plot holes and the unnecessary scenes in Casino Royale, you haven't seen Connery yet.
