congrats.....

If you have an SPL meter, or one of those fancy AVRs that have the calibration feature, I would use it to help determine the best placement.

Elevating it may also help too..... I see many people using sub-risers, but anything "Solid" (as in "sturdy" ) will get the job done...... get it up a good 6-12 inches.

EDIT:

I don't see any color..... may be time to change the glade-plug-in

I actually don't know. I haven't had time to hook it up yet. I have been too busy this past weekend with family Christmas' to get to enjoy it. I hope to get it hooked up by this weekend. I first have to get a sub wire; since it didn't come with one.

Hey, congrats on the new sub! To piggy-back on what Beta Man was saying, elevating the sub will give you better bass response. If you haven't already viewed it, check out Big Daddy's sticky.

Nah..I'm not into all that geeky audiophile crap. I just want a little more rumble out of my movies than what I have now. My friend tried that anyway and there was no sound difference other than less floor vibration. I tend to like the floor vibration.

Still haven't had a chance to hook up the sub. My wife was admitted to the hospital last night with abdominal pains and have been with her most of the time. I am excited to get this thing hooked up to watch the movies I got for Christmas.

FYI Off-topic news.....My wife has been diagnosed with a genetic form of Pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is usually caused by heavy drinking or by the gallbladder and it could be fatal. She doesn't drink alcohol, and they can't find anything wrong with the gallbladder. They are kinda dumbfounded that they don't really know how to take care of it.

i-Dak,

You may already know this, but to answer beefytwinkie's question, the High Cut switch likely sets one of two crossover points, since the sub doesn't appear to have a continually adjustable crossover knob. Your manual will specify the two frequencies. Being that your HTIB speakers will not extend very low, you'll probably want to to choose the higher-frequency setting, but there's more...

Not sure if your Philips HTIB delivers speaker-level power to the sub that comes with it. If so, then you'll need to use the speaker-level input (Input 1) on your new Yamaha sub. If it happens to use a line-level signal to the sub, then just use the RCA jacks (Input 2) on the your Yamaha sub. As always, refer to your Yamaha instruction manual for correct connection details.

I'm pretty sure that, compared to your HTIB sub, the Yamaha will provide dramatic improvement, especially in bass that you can feel. You'll definitely get some nice rumble from it, and I think you'll enjoy it. Nice X-mas gift!

Wishing the best for your wife as treatment ensues.

If you didn't see the thread already; I don't have the Philips HTiB DVD Upconverter unit anymore. I upgraded a little to this...
I kept the Philips surround speakers though.

P.S. The news on my wife is...She was released yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. She is supposed to have surgery to remove the galbladder sometime soon. She is on a bland diet, and can't wait till this is all over and neither can I. She and I are so tired of her having this pain. She's been in pain due to this for 6-8 months with specialists telling her it that all this pain is due to having a fatty liver....I am so pissed at these "specialists" right now!
