Default Not sure what to do sub wise

Hi everyone ok right now i have 1 ed a2-300. im not happy with this sub. i mean it does its job and for what i paid it was a great value but ive gone through ALOT of customer service with this sub. perhaps more than anyone else has.

now because brent and alex are amazing i am still considering eD

also i use svs speakers and really enjoy them and the praise over the subs makes me temped to switch to an svs sub.

also i use my system almost 50/50 for music ht lately so ive considered switching to a sealed sub

so options are

buy a 2nd a2-300
save up buy the dual 13 kit from ed
buy an svs pc-12 nsd/+ and mix it with my ed till later when id sell the eD and but a second pc-12 nsd/+

curious if anyone has any experience or advice. my room is about 16x14x7.5 so yeah

I love my SVS PC12-NSD sub. I can't help but rave about it. But if you are truly interested in a SVS PC12 Plus and running it with your eD A2-300...there is one other member, his name is "erict" and he is using this combination of an eD A2-300 with a SVS PC12-NSD sub. I think you could gain alot of useful info if you sent him a PM about how these 2 subs get along together and how he set them up.

Ordinarily I would recommend getting a 2nd eD A2-300 (see my sig and gallery). But what is it about the current one you have that you're not happy about? Personally I love my dual setup, and it is worlds better than a single sub (not that I was displeased with my single, as I loved it, but adding the 2nd really made a lot of improvements and opened my eyes to what Big Daddy has always said about the need for 2). I seldom listen to music at home, so my setup is about 95% movies / gaming / cable. The dual setup is perfect (for me).

Are you having performance issues with the sub? Have you calibrated with an SPL meter, tried the sub crawl, risers, poly-fill, things of that nature that help to improve a sub's performance?

fors thans for reminding me about ericT he would help me out when i first got the eD and was having amp issues so ill ask him how mixing the subs is working out, i know ed mullen was confident in email we could make it work.

and pro my issue with the a2-300 is just a quality concern issues that im skeptical about adding a 2nd

No problem, you have a Sammy, Pioneer Elite and are looking into an SVS sub, that makes you OK in my book!

If you really enjoy music, I would definitely recommend getting a good sealed sub, or at least one with ports designed to be sealed off for music use.

Hsu subs are very good musically and for HT. I almost got a VTF-2 MK3, they nice because they have switches in the back and make it a Variable Tuning Frquencies, so you can maximise it HT or Music, with the flip of a switch. It has ports that can be pluged or not, depending on how you want to use it.

They are very good subs, no complaints from any of the owners for any reason. For the price you are looking to pay, this may be the best sub for you.

I would also suggest a sealed sub. I have a Sunfire myself the difference between a sealed and a ported sub is pretty big IMO. Sure, there are some excellent ported subs out there, but sealed subs just seem to be more musical and tighter to me in general.

Isn't the f12 more of a musical sub? I've looked into it but think it'll best be suited later on for 2.1 music set up. I want a clean sounding sub but I want some slam too for when I'm watching my blus.

I have never heard one so I cant accurately say but it seems like if you had to have lean one way yes, its more musical. But that doesnt mean it cant have clean sounding slam for watching blus. Maybe someone who owns one can help us out. This is one of the subs at the top of my list if I ever decide I want to upgrade from my STF-1 (which prob wont happen since it performs so well)

Buy the dual 13" subwoofer kit from eD. It will beat out anything anywhere near the range you're looking at. It has incredible musicality, extension, and output.

If you can find a sealed sub in your price range, you'll be much happier listening to music.

100% agreement.

The tradeoff is you need a lot more power for the same SPL...but it's worth it.

My JL Audio Fathom (13") just busts out incredible sound...cleanly. But it has a 2000 watt power supply. You need to feed a sealed beast.

I have had two ED subs and i have never been happy with them. They have great customer service, but their products are on the cheap side. They use foreign made amps and drivers and dont warranty their amps past one year. If you go with SVS you will get a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, get a usa made driver and a bash amp. You will never look at ED again if you get an SVS. I have had an ED a3-300 and a5-350 and while i never have had any problems with the a3, it didnt sound good. The a5 sounded good but in the year i had it, it was down 5 different times, with blown amps and drivers. ED is a good company to go with if you dont want to spend alot of money and you want a bang for your buck. If you want something quality go with a different manufacture. SVS is definitely a step up and in the right direction. Be aware there is alot of ED fanboys on this site, that will never say anything negative about ED and that ED is the best. But my recommendation comes from 100% experience.
Go with ED if you dont have a lot to spend. If you want quality SVS. There is a world of difference in quality between ED and SVS, from the finish they use to the way they perform.

Interesting design....looks pretty good. Keep us updated on the project. You should end up with a pretty impressive sub, and I'd love to see the finished product.
