HT-Z510 Surround Sound system problem

I've got this home theatre setup from Samsung. I run an optical audio cable to my PS3 and to my 360, switching the cable between inputs and necessary. Recently, it's been dropping sound anywhere from a tenth of a second (just enough to notice it) to cutting out for up to two seconds. Originally, I thought it was my PS3 (a 60GB launch model) so I bought one of the new slim ones and retired my 60GB to another room in the house. Things were running fine, but just now, while playing on my 360, the sound cut out again. It's sporadic.

My question.. what is it!? Is it the receiver? Is it possibly the optical audio cable going bad? The optical audio cable I'm running is the official Sony Optical audio cable for the PS3. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, an update..

PS3 still works fine.. I have my 360 hooked up via HDMI and I have the little adapter so I can use an optical audio cable.. the optical audio cable doesn't work AT ALL in the 360 anymore, but it's just fine for the PS3, with the occasional brief hiccup in sound. What is going on? I jiggled the adapter and the sound came in for a second, then went back out. Is it possible that the adapter went bad? This is all very, very frustrating.
