Default What is your dream home theater?

List the equipment you would want in your dream home theater setup.

Here's mine:

Panasonic TH-50PZ850 50" plasma
Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-ray Disc player
Paradigm Studio 60's(mains)
Paradigm Studio CC-590(center)
Paradigm Studio ADP-590(surrounds)
Paradigm Studio Servo-15(subwoofer)
Denon AVR-5308CI (receiver/amp)
All cables and wires by Monster Cable

I know this isn't an absolutely insane setup because you could easily spend 10 times as much and get go with a monster theater screen, high-end projector, and speakers that cost 20K a pair and more and monoblock amps but at some point I just don't care about stuff that expensive. I coudl die happy with a system like I listed above.

I just want a good sized room of the right shape. From there it would be more fun to build up and upgrade than to just load it from the start with all top of the line premium gear.

Same for me, it's the one thing killing me right now, I don't have a good room to set one up

A proper designed and sized room is what I am going to have to figure out when I purchase or build a house within the next year or so.

If you want to go separates, consider the Onkyo Pre/Pro instead of the flagship Denon receiver and have Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company upgrade the unit.

http://upgradecompany.com/

It will cost you less, be more flexible, and will perform and sound much better.

I honestly have my dream theater.

I suppose it could be better but I often just sit there stunned by how good it is.

I have a CRT FP with a 72" wide screen (which transates into 81" diagonal.)

I feed PCM from the PS3 to a Denon AVR and then off to Paradigm Speakers.

but... Most importantly...

It's all in a room a built myself which is nothing but a Home Theater and has all dark walls with Black ceiling and screen wall and no windows.

It's the closest I will come to heaven... I never think about upgrading any of it. I just buy more Blu.

=Brian

p.s. Went to my local "real" theater to see Quantum with the free movie cash and it was terrible compared to my Home Theater. Sound was bad. The picture was not correctly placed on the screen and focus was not perfect (you could tell mostly with the captions or credits). The film itself was amazingly damaged for only have been out a week. It was a bigger screen but no where near as enjoy-able as my home theater.

first off, that's amazing you can say that. I hope to be able to do the same.

But I was wondering how much you think you spent on everything not including building your own room?

Default dream theatre

A laser Quad-HDTV means it's screen resolution checks in at 3840x2160 (8.29 million pixels), or four times that of the highest HDTV standard, and otherwise known as 2160P. Combined with autostereoscopic technology, with holografx capabilities

Well,... I stopped keeping the reciepts when I was building the room as it was going to get depressing.

For the other stuff.... The Paradigm speakers were at the time the second from the bottom in price so the 5.1 (yes,... I built before the 7.1 came about) set of speakers was about $800. The Denon AVR was refurbished for $309... It's the 788... again a low end model but takes PCM from HDMI and does good things with it. My projector was 20,000 when new in 2001 but I bought it used for $400 and then put all new tubes in for $2100 making the total $2500.

Then there's the 60GB PS3 from Nov 06 which was $599 and the Harmony universal remote which was about $100. My mom bought my sconces from a theater that was being torn down .... I don't know how much those were. My DIY screen cost about $40.

Looks like $4349.

Many people will see that gear as low end but I couldn't be enjoying it more. It's good enough to watch sober.

There's a few pics in the theater pics thread on this forum if that still exists. I'm not a master capenter and didn't do any fancy woodwork or anything. It's purely functional. I even put up a few of the drywall sheets backwords by mistake so they got wavy after painting. It's not perfect but I couldn't be happier with it.

I plan to take more and better pix soon to put in my HT gallery here but haven't got to it yet.

-Brian

EDIT - I remembered some of the number wrong and updated them.

I second that. I have pretty much what I've always wanted in a home theater. I may install a projector down the road, but that's about it.

I would just change my tv to a 60" pioneer and that would pretty much be all i need.

i love my def tech setup and my elite reciever.

oh i would have to add a supercube 2, other than those two things i am good to go

Here is my dream set up:

Speakers:
Paradigm Studio 100's for the mains
Paradigm Studio CC-690 for the center
Paradigm Studio 40's for the surrounds
Paradigm Signature Servo subwoofer

Reciever:
Onkyo TX-SR876

Blu Ray player:
Marantz BD8200

Display:
Sony KDL-55XBR8

It seems small and modest, but for me it would get the job done.
