Default Player wont play movies

My Phillips BR player wont play about half my bluray movies. A message pops up saying "please eject disc. Movie could lack playback feature."

But yet it plays in my PS3.

So whats up with that?

Are you current with firmware updates for the Phillips?

Check on Phillips support web site, they should have the latest update and instructions on loading it.

The fact that it is giving you trouble on so many discs suggests that something more serious may be borked, but making sure the firmware is up-to-date is Step 1.

Most likely, as previously stated, it is an issue that your firmware is not up to date. Just because a product is 'new' or 'newly purchased' by you, does not mean it is up to date. Most people when they buy a new BD player, have out of date firmwares before they even get home with it, or even leave the store with it for that matter. Many of the factory models are sent out with the original firmware instead of the manufacturer spending time/money to implement it before it gets to stores, as well as it is really easy for any consumer to update it themselves, and keep it up to date since firmware updates (depending on the model you have) can be frequent to be compatible with all Blu-ray discs.

Thank Goodness you have that PS3.

Good Luck with the FW updates. Some companies are better about FW updates than others.

Buy SD(2GB Or Bigger) Card! Hook UP To The Internet If You Can. Down Load Firmware Updates! If Your Movies Don't Work After This,Then It Is The Player

Based on his link I would guess his model is HTS5100B/F7 which is pretty much a HTIB system. I know from threads for other players that other people have had similar issues without the extra memory plugged in mostly due to BD Live, not just firmware. If he disables BD Live he may be able to play the discs, I don't see a firmware update for it...at least not downloadable via pc.

Change the BD Live setting to prohibit (page 47 of the manual if the model is correct) and that might do it. I haven't personally tried this so it may be for not. If you want BD Live then you will need to get the SD card and leave the setting at allow. It's probably less hassle to just get a card an insert it. Personally so far I haven't found anything on BD Live worth the space it occupies but to each his own.

They should put it on the darn box that it's a requirement if it has to have it. You know, like a cable. But I guess people would be able to figure out that with that extra purchase that it's not cheaper than XYZ brand sitting next to it. Really though, an SD card? Why not USB thumb drive like every other manufacturer. If you need to format it a pc has lots of USB ports to do it, but an SD card? Maybe your pc will have one but more than likely not.

I don't think so. I am the very same way, there is a difference between being an educated consumer and being anal, however I may be both
