jimmy, obviously you're throwing a lot of acronyms around. But here's the facts.

BD-J is working right now. Dolby TrueHD is decoded out of the box. HDMI 1.3 is in EVERY PS3. BD+ playback is mandatory for all BD players; it is not tested yet because there are no discs with it.

Decoding DTS HDMA is a possible option but it is not certain.

Is it confirmed anywhere that the 80gig will have the 65nm architecture?

The 80GB version won't have anything that current 60GB units cannot achieve with a firmware upgrade. Being a game console it has to provide a uniform interface to customers regardless of when it was manufactured, so Sony can only make improvements/upgrades "under the hood" that are also achievable with a fw upgrade on the "older" units. DTS HD decoding can be done by a fw upgrade. HDMI 1.3 already included (although according to reports that version of chip it has won't pass undecoded bitstream of DTS-HD,Dolby TrueHD to 1.3 receivers). 65nm is a possibility since reports came in March that IBM started manufacturing cell on 65nm, I guess the question is whether Sony ran out of its stockpile of 90nm cell chips before they started assembling the 80GB units. Hopefully someone with an 80GB unit will do some power consumption measurements since the 65nm chip should have measurably lower power draw.

Cool Release date is August 1 unless something happened

They announced a 8/1 release date for the 80GB model. As to 65nm that will be coming soon but they aren't there yet. Once they get to 65nm they think they can start moving towards profitability. Some would argue the 60GB model is the most advanced you will ever be able to buy because it has the emotion engine in it and none of the newer models do or will have that. Everything else is just a firmware update away. I think people will be talking in a year or two about how adaptable the PS3 really is and how Sony was really thinking ahead. Just my opinion there.

Amazon is listing 8/12 as the release date.

I don't have a lot of ps2 games - so for me I am more interested in 65nm if it runs a little cooler.

What does the emotion engine do? Is it worth having? I am thinking of replacing my 2nd 60gb for the 80gb since I have had fan noise issues.

Does the 80 have anything the 60 doesn't have besides a bigger HD?
All I can say is I have a 60, and I will probably just add a larger drive myself, prolly something like 160 GB.

The emotion engine allows "better" backwards compatibility because it is the actual chipset that the PS2 has. It eliminates the problems with backwards compatibility via emulation. Essentially, since I have a big PS2 game library it was a key for me to have so that I can still play all of my games. They are still PS2 games (althought the firmware is helping upscale them) but they play right and look right.

No it just the drive and Motorstorm.

The extra 20GB does not warrant an extra US$40 when combined with Motorstorm. SCEA should've bundled an extra controller to make it sweeter. Then customers have a choice of either the US$499 (BD player) or the US$599 (game console and BD player).

Since the 5 Free Disc offer is still on, any BD player right now is a sweet deal.
