Default Need New HT SUB

Alright guys after a hit and miss with Acoustics Audio HDSub12, I am in the need of a new sub. I want to buy it from a retail store, so i can go there whenever i have problems, and not have to ever have to ship my sub or wait for it to come back to me, if theres ever a problem. I liked the deep bass from the AA HDsub12 but it was defective.

Can someone help me Im thinking either Best Buy or Ultimate Electronics, and i dont want to spend any more than $300

Well in all honesty I think you need to find a local a/v store to purchase something from then. Best Buy doesn't have much and what they do have seems to be over priced. I went to Ultimate Electronics website and they had nothing in your price range.

I wouldn't completely stay away from online only retailers just because you were let down by acoustic audio.

I just hate waiting, Ive been waiting since december 27, 2009 to listen to my new sub but it was defective and then i had to send it back and wait but i love watching movies on the weekends after a hard work of week. And all i want to enjoy is some Nice Home Theatre Bass. I would really like to pick one up tomorrow night

I know exactly what you mean. Good HT bass is hard to live without.

Yes. Now they do have a wait time, which does suck. Let me tell you though, you will not be disappointed you waited. There is nothing better available for the money and patience does pay off in a big way with the A2-300. You could do a Live Chat with eD tomorrow to get an idea of when it would be shipped to you.

I always say "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission."

And something shiny for the honey will help...

Well, if she's into HT as much as my other half is, then that might work!

I know. They had some ready to go at Thanksgiving, but they flew through those pretty quick leading up to Christmas. They're getting caught up now though. From what I'm seeing, 3 weeks is a fair estimate.

Taking the 2 holidays (Christmas and New Years) into account, mine shipped right around 3 weeks. They've said they're nearly out of all the craziness.

Like Driver King said, the wait is worth it. It sucks, sure, but so does paying $400+ at Best Buy for a sub that doesn't perform nearly as well.

I did!! I gotten mine a Panasonic 26" LCD for her computer and she loves it. I was just going to get the monitor, but amazon had a nice price on the LCD with the tuner's.

She goes back and forth with watching TV and using the computer.

That was fast! Make sure you're prepared. Have a spare pair of shorts at the ready after you play it for the first time. Also, for entertainment purposes, if you're handy, you could make a riser for your new A2-300 to raise it off the floor (for improved performance and less shaking of the house), that is if your wife doesn't break you in half once the subwoofer arrives. Also, make sure to do the subwoofer crawl (and have a long enough subwoofer cable ready). That way you can find the best position for the subwoofer so you don't question if there is a better position.

Theres only one place the sub can go because of the WAF. So There will be no crawling around, until i get a new house someday and build a dedicated ht room

How should i set this sub up when it comes????? Half gain and frequency all the way up???

Yes. If you have an SPL meter, that would be even better (if not, $50 at Radio Shack sometime down the road is a GREAT investment).

I have mine set at about 1:00 position, freq all the way open, -6.0 in the receiver. I expect all of that to change tomorrow. I'll be a calibrating fool tomorrow night!

WAF - overruled. Once it comes, yes. Crossover knob all the way up on the sub. Leave the phase at 0 on the subwoofer. Turn the gain up to about 11 or 12 O' clock. Then re-run the auto calibration of your receiver. If you have an SPL meter (if you don't, you should get one), at your listening position, adjust the levels of every speaker and the subwoofer to 75dB at C weighting and with slow response. Point the SPL meter up at a 45 degree angle and don't sit right behind it (ideally you could put it on a tripod). That way you get the best overall integration of kickass performance with your subwoofer and your speakers.

eD takes care of that in their QC'ing prior to shipment. The SPL meter is truly icing on the cake for your entire HT system. You'd be surprised how often you'll use it once you get it. It may be one of the best HT tweak investments you'll make for the money.
