Sony Pictures A Man for All Seasons (1966)

Sony Pictures has A Man For All Seasons scheduled for an Oct 22, 2019 release.

Quote:
Winner of 6 Academy Awards® including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture! Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield), England's Roman Catholic Chancellor, is forced into a difficult position when corrupt King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) demands his approval to divorce his wife and marry his mistress. Torn between his conscience and duty to the crown, Sir Thomas chooses to say nothing, sparking the rage of the king. What unfolds is a battle of wills packed with palace intrigue, political brinksmanship and the fate of man, church and country. In the end, his silence spoke loudest of all.
Special Features:
  • The Life Of Saint Thomas More Featurette
  • Theatrical Trailer

BD-25

Nice to have it back in print in the US; I wonder how it will compare to the TT and Eureka discs since those were on 50GB discs. I hope this means we can see more long OOP Sony TT releases like "Bell, Book and Candle" and "Bye Bye Birdie".

Question

I looked at the review for the Twilight Time edition of A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, and from what it said, the Twilight Time edition was sourced from a 4K scan. If this is true, will this same 4K scan seen on the Twilight Time release be the source for the upcoming Sony Blu-ray release?

Yes, they wouldn't spend the money to make another 4K scan that's not needed.

My dad has bought this for me a minimum of 10 times on dvd and for some reason I've never watched it. I look forward to not watching the half dozen or so blurays he buys me before one of us dies.

If it's the same 4K scan, then that's great.

My one Twilight Time regret is not picking up Bye Bye Birdie when I had the chance. It's now going for crazy money on eBay. Would love to get a second chance at it.

Looks like it has all the same features as the Twilight Time release, not sure if it would really be worth it.

It's actually both, almost always together. The third film he buys me which I "Refuse" to watch is Gettyburg though he's only bought that for me two or three times. Love the eye rolls as if I'm lying to get street cred or whatever it is you think I'm doing in this group by being ignorant on classic films

I've still got to get around watching it myself. I have the DVD via the "Columbia Best Picture Collection".

I'm more confused why your dad repeatedly "buys" you the same movie multiple times...what's the story here? Does he go hog wild on Amazon while under the influence? Is he afflicted by Alzheimer's/dementia? Or is he just filthy rich and has a rapacious sense of humor?

I get that. Really don't mean it as dumping on these two (three) movies. I mean I have no interest in seeing them but the same is true of lots of movies. Commented when they've come up only because I've owned more copies of either than any other movie except maybe the original star wars and ghostbusters despite never having seen them.

It is really confusing. He's a weird guy. Touch of bad memory, maybe very early onset of Alzheimer's ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. He always comes to my place when visiting from out of town, looks through my movies, seen those arent in there or misses them the few times I've left them in my collection and then next time he is out at a store he'll pick them up or order them online for me. Usually it's just one or both of those films but sometimes there will be one or two others. It's like he's compelled to.

My dad is very similar. The other day I went to visit and asked him to play Steve Winwood's Arc of a Diver. He replied that his CD was scratched, which of course wasn't. It took him years to accept that his old CD player was dying and he'd blame it on the discs being faulty. After he bought a new player the disc had played perfectly but of course he kept insisting that the disc was scratched.

He's 71 but I can recall episodes like this when he was in his late 30's. He only pays attention to his own comments and, of course, his memory is absolutely horrible. It makes it even worse when your own memory is unusually good (not my opinion, everybody points it out. I was a pre-teen back then and I remember like it was yesterday).

I didn't get to buy the TT disc before it sold out. I watched the featurette on my old dvd last night and I could definitely live without it. Happy they're including the trailer, though (it wasn't included on the dvd). I only hope the disc includes the original mono track (the dvd did). The TT disc only had the 5.1 remix and the UK disc, which included the mono, was region B locked.
