Default Ok, so what did people not like about Resistance 2

Aside from the lack of a weapon wheel why was there so much animosity towards resistance 2?

I loved it. My only real complaint was that they went a little too sci-fi for this one as opposed to the call of duty meets sci-fi element from the first one.

One problem I had with it was the same problem I had with Halo 2 in that they took a relatively straight forward story and attempted to make it much bigger and added many unnecessary elements.

Im just curious because in many ways I consider it to be an awesome game.

I thought the single-player campaign was better than Resistance 1. Multiplayer was entertaining but forgettable. Killzone 2, MW and MW2 online killed it.

I think that people felt there wasn't enough improvement over the first game. I did enjoy it, and they did increase the number of players online, but it didn't feel as awe inspiring as the first.

Graphical inconsistency, a lot of areas clearly didn't get the attention they needed.

I just felt the overall tone of the game was different than the first one.

I always described the first one as Call of Duty meets Half Life 2 meets Halo.

The 2nd one removes the Call of Duty element and goes way more in the Halo direction.

i loved it too.

its good. in fact, that may be its problem: its too good.

what do i mean? 2 of my buddies are hard-core gamers. they worked for EA sports.

they came over one night to play it.

30 minutes later, they beggged me to turn it off, as the zombies were scaring the crap out of them. another friend told me he had actual nightmares the next morning (and no, he wasnt kidding) of course, the HT system helped

I would most likely say the weapon wheel and the graphics. Graphics seemed very crude in some parts, and when you compare R2 to K2 (both exclusives), it really looked rushed. When K2 was originally delayed from the holiday season to Feb, I couldn't figure out why they would do that. But after seeing the graphics, I think Sony basically said that if K2 is released first, sales of R2 would crumble. Gameplay and story were great I thought...

Story wise the first one was alot better. Gameplay between the two, I agree with others that the first one is COD meets Sci-Fi and was brilliant but that seemed to be missing from the second one. Maybe it's because the first was all new I think that's way alot of people may like it compared to the second one. I liked them both and some parts of the second were superb especially fighting the huge monsters.
Bring on the 3rd

I enjoyed the SP well enough, but hated the ending boss fight for how stupid it was. I loved the coop, but it got stale after you memorize everything and the "boss" creatures were nothing more than bullet sponges. I hated the MP, I felt the spawning was a mess. There was one MP mode I semi-enjoyed but it wasn't enough to keep me interested in it.

Speaking of "bullet sponges", I heard people level the same complaint against MW2 online (really? People die quicker in MW2 than in most FPS I've played)... if those same people played R2 online, they'd know the true meaning of "bullet sponge".

I loved the SP in the first one and thought the online play was ok.

In the second game I loved the co-op play and thought the SP was ok.

So for me, I think they put a lot of effort in to the online play while not putting enough in to the SP part of the game.

I played the beta - it wasn't enough to get me to purchase the game. The online co-op was cool - but sitting for 5 minutes unloading rounds and rounds of ammo got downright boring.

I didn't mind only being able to use two different weapons. It made the game more challenging. My biggest complaint with R2 was the single player campaign. The story wasn't as good as the first one IMO. I don't like how they got rid of the narration technique. And, the direction Insomniac took with the story (like the reveal of the truth behind the Kloven, the SSA, etc.). To me, it seemed like Insomniac focused way too much on multiplayer compared to the single player campaign. Regardless, I played R2 and and increasingly anticipating the third one.

Yeah, there is no comparison. MW2 = super quick deaths

One complaint I read about was the spawning of the monsters that could kill with one hit. Those were annoying as it involved a lot of dying and you basically had to memorize the position. I did find that annoying but not as frustrating as parts in other games, such as the blades of Hades and the spiked column in God of War.

Those are frustrating parts of games that serve no purpose other than to aggravate the gamer.

I played the first one and lasted about an hour. For me, it just didn't offer anything new. Then again...I feel the same way about Uncharted.

I did like R2, just want to do a list of the things that could use improvements for me

- Graphically inconsistent (from "Wow" to "err... I've seen that on PC 5 years aggo")
- Single Player felt disjointed (I haven't played R1, people seem to indicate that it was better handled in that one). We also need a more compelling story and protagonist imo.
- Perhaps a little too classic in its "wave of ennemies - Boss - Voiceover -Wave of ennemies - Boss - Voiceover ..."
- No really "wow it's cool" weapons. I thought. The dual mode of each weapon was nice, but some felt really useless

All this being said, the size of the bosses and the co-op multiplayer were downright amazing.

Overall though (aside from the kick butt co-op) it just felt like everything had already been done better in Half Life 2, a 4 year old game at the time.

P.S: Oh and they need a better scriptwritter.
The main story was imo handled poorly. It should have been an epic struggle to keep one's humanity, with strongly acted pieces, possibly a love interest that you are going to lose, etc.
I mean, the last stand of humans, with a super soldier that is progressively losing his humanity to become which he is fighting?
This should have been epic story telling.

It felt amazingly flat to me unfortunately.

Change of controls. I beat r1 to go to r2 and be not used to zooming in or whatever.

Mostly I hated the lack of local multiplayer.

I had so many great nights playing 4 player split screen on R1. Still do.
