Top headlines

Some customers who send their consoles in for warranty repair are unhappy with long return times, inadequate fixes and poor customer service.

I don't know if SCEA do this but SCEE customer service will actually send a courier to pick up your broken system and drop off a replacement at the same time. You arrange the date on the phone so it's easy to plan when you should be home for the swap.

Xbox 360 owner Mike Vail blogged about his experience with the Xbox warranty repair on his personal Web site, beginning July 5 when he saw the first ominous glimmer of the flashing red lights, until July 26 when he received his replacement Xbox.

He complained that Microsoft didn't fix the console he sent to them. "They just gave me a new one. How does that work? I would understand if the manufacturer's date on the one I got back was a month old or something around there but it wasn't. It was four months older then the one I sent in," he wrote two days after receiving a console back from Microsoft.

Mcullen, whose box took two months to arrive back at his doorstep, was even less pleased. He said that instead of his console, which was 7 months old when it broke in mid-May, he got back a year-old Xbox with a broken disc drive.

Yea that's Microsoft for you. I sent in a 360 manufactured in July 06 for repair, and got a "new" one back, which was manufactured in August 06. Meaning the possibility of my 360 dying again is very high.

Perhaps they sent a refurb to you? If so, then you're good to go. My little brother just bought one that was refurbed from Gamestop and supposedly has the "fix" and hasn't had any issues.

dont worry it will die . its clock is ticking and theres nothing you or microsoft can do to stop it. I think the 360 might be jinxed. lol

I don't have an XBOX 360 but my nephews do. I know they had to send it in once for repairs, but they sent them a new one. Yesterday, I was helping my sister's family move and my nephew was packing up his XBOX. His friend said it wasn't working, when I said something about the $1billion they had to put aside for repairs. Then I asked my nephew about it this morning and he said yes, there was a harware failure again. I asked wouldn't they just send you a new one? If they do, he said that would be our 4th new one! Now though, they have a new policy where they have to look at it and see if they can repair it and it could take a month and a half! I know they take care of their system, so it isn't them being stupid. They have a little stand they keep it on so it isn't around anything else where it would have plenty of ventilation and not overheat. I was thinking about getting one, but after that conversation the thought completely left my mind.

The refurbs they're sending out now have large new heatpiped heatsinks added to the boards that solve the problem. They're simply reusing the old cases and a lot of the parts that don't have an issue
