AND

The silent acknowledgement that the moderators here have a complete lack of respect for anyone beyond themselves. Especially users or threads on this forum that generate useful content and may even draw people to come and visit this forum/site as a whole.

The Custom Cover Art thread was stripped of its "OFFICIAL" tag a few months back without any reasoning. Yesterday, this long lasting content generating thread was silently whisked away to the "Off Topic Discussion" forum. Over the past three years the Custom Cover Art thread and its predecessor have brought together a community of artists to provide their work for free within this blu-ray.com community.

We as a sub-community are asking that the thread be moved back to the Blu-ray Movies - USA and Region A forum where it or its predecessor has resided for a few weeks shy of 3 years. Many other threads similar in nature don't directly discuss the movies but something about the movies (i.e. the covers in our case) such as The BD Slipcover List and Blu-ray Customer Support Numbers/Links and they still exist within the Blu-ray Movies - USA and Region A forum.

If this doesn't happen, when it is combined with recent actions, it appears we as a sub-community of custom cover artists we are no longer welcome.

I think you're taking it a bit far there. Yes, it's weird and kinda lame that the thread was moved. But it's not a thread about "OFFICIAL" Region A titles, it's a thread about custom designs. It's a great thread, and I frequent it often to see the awesome covers that some of the members design.

But if it's not in a certain section, you really feel that you're "not welcome"?

I think this thread is asking for trouble

Well, I definitely support the cause. I appreciate the work done by graphic artists to recreate some cases that may not be the standard form amaray-like case. Maintaining uniformity in ones collection can add a nice touch when displaying it openly.

I say keep up the good work, we'll find you one way or another... but I don't think this was a necessary move.

Perhaps this is because people are pirating discs or getting them from mom and pop shops or somewhere in blank cases cheaply/free and use these, I do believe that if the thread stays we should not get angry, it IS still here.... Lets not get too angry.....

For titles that are mostly released in Region A or those people in Region A have been purchasing and are looking for covers for.

An "Off Topic" forum on any forum including this one is for threads and topics that are so far off base they simply talk nothing about the main content of the forum, the main content here being blu-rays. This can be seen easily when visiting any Off Topic forum including this forum's; here we have discussions of the NFL, NHL, cell phones, you tube, etc.

Although we get a little be off subject within our own Custom Cover thread for a few posts here and there, over the course of 3 years and only two threads we have all pretty much stayed on topic and various artists have continued to generate and freely share content with other forum members here.

Getting sent to the "Off Topic" forum after 3 years is akin to getting the shaft in the forum world.

Or people just think the cover on the actual release is crappy. Or they want to switch from a crappy slim case to a single case; or from singles to a combined collection case. Or they bought a British version of a region free title and they want to get rid of those huge rating symbols.

There are many reasons for custom covers, piracy is a minute one in my opinion.

Well there's really no specific place for a thread like a Custom Cover-art thread, which is why it was moved to Off Topic. As I said, it's not about official studio releases, it's custom artwork. Who knows why they moved it, I think that's pretty weird, but just roll with it.

The first 3 people that replied in this thread said the same thing, what does that tell ya? Let's just keep the thread goin like nothin happened, and enjoy it

I've never been into the whole 'custom' art work. I mean, you'll see it on your shelf and you'll always know its fake artwork. Just makes the BD look cheap to me.

Agree. As the thread was not about blu ray movies and/or releases (as is this thread), it does not belong in that forum. OT, by definition, is THE place for the thread. That's not a slap in the face to anyone, it's just how it is. Now, rather than making a thread b****ing about it (and taking shots at the Mods), I would suggest PM'ing a Mod/Admin and request they Sticky the thread in OT. That way, it will always be at the top of the page and available for all to see and visit when they want to.

I am curious too as how a netflix thread that has 419 views and 18 replies get a sticky yet the custom thread gets burned. If the mods are going to do this can we please get rationals.

Yeah, I think it belongs in the off topic because it doesn't pertain to just people in the Region A Blu-ray releases. If you would like too; make a social group of Custom Blu-ray Art.

Any moderation issues should be taken up with the site manager.

I am sure there is decent reason for it though. Whether it be the fact it isn't related to Blu-ray releases, the use of studio images, or the constant bickering that goes on concerning who stole whos cover.

That said, I am not sure how a move of a thread would make any member feel unwelcome.

I think that the main issue here is that the thread has always resided in the Movies - Region A section of the forum, where it has received a lot of great traffic. As a matter of fact I've seen most of you in the thread posting replies about cover art and such, and have also received pms from most of you about mine or others work in the thread.

A lot of people have put some hard work into keeping the thread going, esp. Trean who is the OP. When your thread is moved without be explained why, it can be frustrating. Sure it's not necessarily about about region A movies only, but it's about movies. It surely belongs there more than others do.

Beta, what would you have done, if before you were a mod, another mod moved your "Theater building thread" or the "Criterion Collection Discussion" thread (both threads that I love!) to a remote part of the forum? I know they're not exactly the same if you compared the situations, but that's just the way it is. Point is: a lot of people have gone lengths to make that thread what it is, and now when they go to the movies section like they're accustomed to doing in order to find it, they won't be able to because it's moved, and they may think it's been locked. There will be less traffic on a thread where people have put a lot of effort into keeping.

Ah the feedback forum. The death knoll that is greater than the off topic forum. A place no one goes looking for anything that might be of relevance; much akin to placing the Custom Cover thread in the Off Topic forum.

Yeah you can let them handle it and apparently they will maintain their anonymity and silence because I was never given a reason as to why the thread was moved or who moved it.

With posts like this how would expect someone to respond? It's understandable that you feel you're being slighted, but it seems you've already made up your mind how this issue will be handled and I'm not really sure what you then hope to gain out of it based on your choice of words. For the record, the feedback forum may not be an area many members post in, but whenever a member has had a concern, issue, etc, so long as I've been here, 99% of the time I've always seen an admin or moderator post in the thread to try and resolve it. You'll notice two have already made an appearance in this one and have given their thoughts on the matter .

I'm actually surprised how many times staff members choose to respond to members that express their opinions more aggressively than necessary...

Ok while a decent reason there may be...what is it? Why do threads have to be moved with out prior notice? Can we get pre notifications?
TO THE MODS is it that hard to allow feedback before these changes? I only look at Blu Ray region A releases section because I have little spare time and when I am posting the few covers I make and also looking for new covers for my collection thats where I go.

In the end these forum are a community...can any one show the rational for the changes in a so called "democratic" way. Where members can at least have their opinions considered and reflected on, if not this forum will be just like a few other of the bigger DVD/Blu-Ray forums. In that case (wheather it matters to anyone or not) I will quit posting.

Previously, I have "re-moved" or "Moved back" thread, or merged etc.... and found that the Mod who did the initial action had a reason for doing so, and moderating the moderators causes issues...... so I leave it as-is, and if someone posts a concern, such as this one.... the moderator who moved it, merged it, etc. will usually provide a reason, and it's handled without nearly as much confusion as me moving it back, then they move it again, etc etc...

I will quit posting.
I move/merge probably 30-40 threads on a given day..... (people post things in the darndest of places ) Giving an explanation on every one would be chaos..... also, telling someone "hey, your question about where to buy movie posters is better suited for General HT, and not Theater Construction" would get to the point of insultuous for the poster.........

We certainly don't want you to quit posting...... I don't personally use or have a desire to use custom covers, but I think some of the work many who are creating them are doing, is fantastic..... makes me a little jealous! I'll sticky that thread in OT, and if the Mod who moved it feels it's better suited at it's original location, they may chime in..... but a sticky in OT should make it easy for you to find........ and although I understand you stick to "Region A Releases" I hope you continue to contribute to that thread.

EDIT:

If one of the other mods can tell me how to view the moderation history of a thread/post, I'll be more than happy to look into who moved it, and just PM them (Hope it wasn't me )

I've been in this thread since day 1 of joining the website and as most I only look at region A and the hot deals forum....and to me I don't see the reasoning for moving it at all.......i figure jwwbud or whatever his name is is the one who moved it cause all he ever did was come into the thread and complain of one guy who could only speak russian so he told him to learn English (real nice) and we had another kind member generous enough to translate for him or he'd complain that the thread was off topic unfortunately he was wrong because we were talking about custom art theft in the CUSTOM ART THREAD....all the guy does is post comments about the direction of the thread or hes gonna delete a member post all negative stuff.....if you don't like whats being said don't read it but in no way is it or was it ever off topic you'd think with 1600 movies the guy would be a little more occupied then worrying about whats going on in a thread....if we were talking about some XXX website id understand but thats far far from the truth....were talking about Blu-Ray Covers In The Blu-Ray Section Of The Forum plain and simple and it should go back to that.
