^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Maybe its me but this is the same 2 TV's

I personally think going & viewing the TV's to see what you like is the best thing IMO !
As far as the 3-D I myself would not wait for it , who knows what broblems they will have with them as A new thing in TV's .

I was thinking of getting a new TV and decided to hold off once I heard about the 3D tech coming out. I'm going to wait for 3D LED technology to mature before upgrading. However, I'm in a unique position of already owning a high quality HDTV to last until then.

If this is a case of you getting your first HDTV, I wouldn't wait. It will still be another 2 or 3 years before the 3D tech will be reliable enough for the price.

If you have $8K to spend on a new TV and you want it right now, get a 55" Samsung 8500 ($3500). That is the largest LED Samsung currently makes. If I had $8K to spend on a TV, I would not worry about getting the Samsung 8000 ($2500) and saving $1K. Call around for the lowest price. Amazon and Abt are good baselines, but it is good to check Vann's, Crutchfield, Abe's of Maine, Newegg, Best Buy, etc. for any deals. And where possible, actually talk to people. They will normally quote you lower prices than what's on the website and/or negotiate a lower price for you.

You can also consider an LG 55LH90 if you need to buy it now. It will also be $2500.

If you can wait, this year's Samsung LED screen size will increase to 65". They will begin releasing new models later this year (most likely in April with a second batch in Sept). The 9000 is their new top of the line. From what was shown at CES, the higher models will have a silver, brushed steel finish, which may or may not work in your living room. I personally prefer black, so I am hoping they offer these TVs in both finishes. They are all extremely thin, 240hz, edge lit, supposedly with local dimming (if that works as well as back lit local dimming will be up to the testers/reviewers to discern), 3D ready, and will have glossy, reflective screens, which can be an issue in living rooms with lots of lighting. But since I love a large screen, I am more interested in Vizio's new TV.

While Visio might not have the best reputation, they definately will be releasing the most bang for your buck TV in August. The 72", backlit w/ local dimming, LED, 480hz, 3D ready, WiFi, blah, blah, blah is supposed to sell for less than $3500. It looks better on paper, but we'll just have to wait and see. It won't be as thin or come with a super fancy remote (even though the remote does come with a slide out qwerty keyboard), but it will probably be half the price, look almost as good, and it will be larger than Samsung's.

And for the record, don't waste your time waiting on 3D no matter what anyone tells you. I currently have a 61" LED Samsung TV that has been 3D ready for about 2-3 years now. This 3D stuff is nothing new. True, there are new 3D technologies that were debuted at CES this year, but there were like 15-20 different kinds, technologies, delivery methods, brands, etc. 3D in the living room will not start to take any strong shape until the market has narrowed down to 2-3 kinds of leading 3D technology and there is plenty of content. That won't happen for at least a year or two, minimum. It will be HDDVD vs Bluray all over again. Mark my words.

Everyone is throwing their 3D tech into the barrel and seeing which ones float to the top. Buy a TV based on picture quality, size, price, etc. Don't get suckered into the 3D stuff right now. Most of the 3D technologies that were debuted at CES will not survive the first year or two of competition. There is also no content to play on these new 3D TVs either, so keep that in mind too. There are supposedly some 3D channels coming, which may or may not play on certain 3D TVs with certain 3D technology, and maybe one or two 3D blurays have been announced (Disney's Christmas Carol anyone?), but again, it comes back to which technology will work with what content on what TVs and what bluray players.

If you try to buy a TV right now based on what 3D tech it has, you have a very high probability of picking the wrong TV and you'll just end up having a TV with an obsolete 3D technology and you'll have to buy a new 3D TV anyway.

But anyway, best of luck and hope you have a wonderful TV buying experience.
