Default Just bought The Star Trek Collection 1-6 on Amazon for 47.94...good buy or not?

I know there is a lot of hate towards the blu ray and wanted to know what you guys thought. I mean 6 movies for 47 bucks is pretty hard to pass especially for these when I have only seen the 1st one and have heard good things about the other 5

3 movies for 47 is pretty good, that's like 15 bucks each.

Not to mention you get bonus movies like ST 1, 3, 5!

I did not go see Cameron Diaz's Box... oh wait now I see why it's R-rated.

Sorry, couldn't control myself.

Unless you have giant HDTV or a projector, you'll be fine with them. Just enjoy the movies!

I picked up the original six box set and the next gen 4 box set and they're just fine. There is maybe one scene in TMP where the background to when Kirk is standing on the bridge is fuzzy, but I've read that its like that on the DVD too, just not as noticable. The rest of the movies look just fine even though I know there are some complaints with the color being too vivid on some of the movies.

As for the directors cut vs. theatrical release... thats all on you. Out of all the "unrated/extended/directors cut" movies I've seen, the only one that really improved the movie was Kingdom of Heaven, all the rest did not and anything that is a must see... Thats just MHO though.

they did use dnr on them. quite heavy on some of the films.any dnr applyed to film gives you the waxy look.the reason is film contains grain.without grain there no picture. any dnr applyed ,i mean sightist bit will result in loss of detail. when you use dnr and start taking away the grain you loose detail. what people are mad about was they had since 2006 to work on these movies and didn't ,except startrek 2. this being startrek, paramounts cashcow, they really didn't put much effort into it.

you may not notice what all the fuss was about unless you have a 50'' screen or bigger.i thought startrek 1 was not bad. you will see on a very large screen how dnr can muck up a blu-ray transfer. some felt because the films were older the blu-rays are as good as they can get.that doesn't hold water ether because we have seen movies older then startrek that looked great.

the 4 next gen films were better ,but they could have looked even better!. since blu-ray is hi-def format for some the use of dnr is just plain stupid. others don't like grain and want that smooth look. the use of dnr by studios is left over from dvd.yes they use dnr on dvd,you can't see it because its 480i.when you get to 1080p and use dnr ,bad things happen.

penton-man has pointed out that sometimes dnr is used when they shoot the film. i didn't know that,so if they use dnr while shooting the film then use it again on blu-ray.the whole point of blu-ray is to watch highly detailed movies.when film is used ,then dnr applyed to the blu-ray ,you end up with something between blu-ray and dvd. if the movie was shot on film, thats the way i want the blu-ray to look and that means grain intact.
i like to point out newer movies on blu-ray don't seem to have this issue.

at some point 1080p is going to become 2060p and even more detail will be present. sorry to rant about dnr&grain but with film you can't have it both ways.if you want detail then grain has to be there. besides whats important is watching the movie.
