Default What receiver can put out Dolby Digital HD?

What surround sound receiver can fully be capable of displaying HD surround sound and do you have an HDMI receiver to reach that?

Well... yes and no.

PCM is uncompressed audio...AKA "lossless" audio. Not every disk comes with an uncompressed audio track. If the BD is only audio encoded for Dolby True HD and/or DTS Master Audio your receiver (or player) would need decoding features for those compressed audio formats.

Depends on the player.

Take the Panasonic DMP-BD10A for instance, it can decode TrueHD & DTS-HD-HR audio and output it with analog outputs to any receiver.

The PS3 will internally decode TrueHD, and probably DTS-HD down the road, and send the pcm audio through hdmi, so all you need is any hdmi receiver to enjoy those tracks.

The upcoming Samsung BD-P1400 player will send the TrueHD & DTS-HD bitstream through the hdmi output and you'd need an hdmi receiver with the proper decoding capabilities.

...which the PS3 and just about every blu-ray player does, which is why its a moot point to explain for simple question.

surely to note...but the judging from the original poster's level of question, throwing "analog" connection in there would probably confuse the shit out of him more.

To answer the guy's question instead of going back and forth. There's a few ways to get the Dolby TrueHD audio.

1, let the player decode it and send it to the reciever via HDMI as a PCM audio track. Just make sure your reciever is capable of handling PCM 5.1 and higher.

2, let the player decode it and send it over analog outputs. Make sure the reciever has analog inputs.

3, send the Dolby TrueHD track over as bitstream and let the reciever decode it. However, there are no Blu-Ray players (yet) that send the audio over as bitstream.

So in short, I'd get a reciever with HDMI 1.1 or higher and just let the player do the decoding. If you have a PS3, there's a rumor going around that it will start decoding DTS-HDMA by the holidays which would be just awesome. If it did that, you'd be set.
