Default De Palma's Carrie - 9/10/13

I assume it's just a repackage, right?

Let's hope it's a new master. The first two releases are older masters using the antiquated MPEG-2 codec.

Just a repackage I believe. Fox repackages their movies all the time it seems.

I just scored the DVD + Blu Ray combo so if there is ever a remaster I can switch the Blu Ray discs...in the meantime the combo seemed to be the only way to go if you wanted the extras from the DVD

The contrast is blown out on the current version. The prom scene looks nothing like it is supposed to. The flames of the fire are missing some of the reds and oranges due to the contrast. Check out the making of feature on the disc. The picture is correct there.

Eh? Generic white background looks better how? And I know blood is an important thematic element of the film, but this just looks very cheap...IMO.

according to Cliff of Shout Factory, he believes this is a re-packaging.
They were releasing it, which is why they didn't give it to him for Scream.

And Im pretty sure there's already a thread on this release. It's been announced since the end of 2012, and even had a release date with this art attached in May, but they changed it to coincide with the remake in October.

I have no doubt this will be identical to the previous release, with no new transfer and still none of the DVD extras. The only new addition is the 'modern' cover.

I also imagine Sissy is facing backwards because they hope some tweenagers see and think

"Like OMG, I like totally can't believe its already on DVD and Blu-Ray!! Lol. Let's totally like get it and like totally watch it, then totally be like.... uhhhhh.... scared... ahh!"

thinking its the remake, probably unaware there is an original, a sequel, and already a remake... ugh.

Now, this brings up my concerns, why didnt MGM/Fox port the special features the first time around, this and all of their early 1997-98 releases droped the special features, then to add insult to the injury, they re-issue the same discs over and over with diffrent art, thinking , hey , we will sell more copies, and they are dumb, if they add the special features, most likely they will sell more copies, but as is,, they wont!!

You thought way too much into this, and all your thoughts are wrong.

I hope it has a better transfer (it's not a pretty movie but it can look better) and the DVD extras, or even new extras!

From what I have gothered, the original film elements were not in good condition for a better transfer.

Its kinda hard to overthink a joke...

and idk how my thoughts are wrong??

Someone who doesn't know a remake is a remake may buy the original, and think it is the remake.
lol. Tongue twister.

So they may also be surprised that a new film is out so soon, when they are actually buying a film thats 35 years older...

Not Necessarily... these same thoughts came up a few years ago when people saw this abomination of a cover...

It's believed that the studio went with this cover to attract the Twilight crowd... Pause for comparison.

So it's entirely likely that this line of thinking is in fact whats fueling the new cover.

How is that comparable at all to this new cover? I don't see how this new cover conjures up any sort of idea that they're gearing it towards tweens. It's basically the old cover with Carrie in reverse. "OMG, backwards carrie equals the Twilight demographic!!!1".
