Default How long between 2 consecutive viewings of a film on Blu-ray?

I was wondering:

What is the shortest time you keep between 2 consecutive viewings of a film on Bluray?
I mean both regular viewings (not one regular viewing, and another viewing with a commentary or something).

The thing is this:
I try to keep at least a year between 2 consecutive viewings of the same film, because I feel I don't want to have it very fresh on my memory on the 2nd or latter viewings and maybe get bored easily of it. (there are some films that I LOVE very much and unfortunately through many repeated viewings I think the experience now is somehow ruined).

But there are times when I watch a bluray, and then I want to watch it again after a while.
eg. I watched Criterion's A Room with a View this last December when I got the Bluray, and now I want to watch it again, since it fits for summer viewing too. But I'm afraid to do so..
Serious problems..

Varies from film to film.

For something like The Big Lebowski it's around 8 months; for something like Taken it could easily be 5 years.

I'm trying to put a two year limit on repeat viewings. The only exceptions are Christmas/Halloween traditions and if a friend of mine really wants to watch a movie I have watched recently. I find that the longer the gap, the more enjoyable the movie becomes.

This is why I'm getting impatient waiting for the releases of movies like Phantasm and The Pit. They're two of my favorites and it's been about seven years since I've last seen those movies and I desperately want to rewatch them!

yes, I agree.
Although sometimes I get impatient and can't wait till my revisit of a film in 1 year.

There are certain movies though, like holiday films you said, eg. Home Alone, that I haven't got tired till now of watching them every year.
I'm waiting for that time of year and I enjoy them every single time!

By the way, i'm not sure if it's creepy ( ), but I even write in en excel file that I keep my Bluray list, how many times i have watched each bluray.
In that way, I can have more control of my viewings..
Right now, i see the most times (4) are for these "holiday" films: Home Alone 1 & 2 and Batman Returns.

I used to not care before. Until during the summer of my junior year of college (I was 23 at the time) and I rewatched movies like NeverEnding Story, Return to Oz, The Road Warrior, The Little Mermaid, and other movies from my childhood that I had not seen in 11-17 years. They not only held up, but were even better than I remembered. Since it had been so long, I retained less from the movies and couldn't remember how the stories unfolded, but the combination of warm, fuzzy nostalgia and genuinely well-made movies made the viewings from that period of time in my life some of the best and most memorable. I want to recapture that magic, which is why I've set a two year limit, but ideally I would wait as long as five years before rewatching a movie.

I don't have any kind of rules when it comes to watching movies. I just look at them until something grabs me, then I watch it. It could be something new I haven't seen yet, or much, or it could be an old favorite I haven't seen in a long time.

I watched the Blu-ray of Out of the Past at least 10 times within the month after I purchased it. That's saying something, I guess.

Also...

Here's my custom when it comes to Blu-rays with commentary tracks...

1. I watch the feature film with undivided attention.

2. As soon as that film is over, I'll watch it again with the commentary track, but I'll usually be posting on the laptop or something while I'm listening to the commentary track.

So, if a commentary track counts as a second viewing, then I do that all of the time.

I watched my Escape From New York every single day after school for over a month, then switched to The Blues Brothers. Neither film is old to me, even after 50+ viewings.

I try to keep my movies on rotation for exactly that reason. I can get burnt out on them if I see them too much too soon.
I popped in Tombstone last weekend because I wanted something to watch, it's one of my favorites and I've been on a western kick lately but I hadn't waited long enough since the last viewing and I got an unsettling blah feeling from it. Oh, there were moments I enjoyed as always but I wasn't as compelled to sit through the whole thing as usual. I watched it anyway but I knew early on that I shouldn't have put it in. Now I'll have to let it sit for even longer.
I had a similar experience with Edge of Tomorrow a couple of weeks ago. I put it on as just something to watch and I wasn't into it at all. I've noticed that I have to really want to see something, not having seen it for awhile to get into it. There's also my mood. If I'm not in a good mood or too tired from work, it probably won't pull me in.
I miss the days of being a kid who could see the same movies over and over and feel the same excitement everytime. An unfortunate part of growing up I guess.

I will say that, every so often, it's fun to watch a movie several times during the week of purchase, and "live with the movie" for a few days. I used to do this routinely during my VHS and DVD collecting days, when I did not buy as many films each month.

I miss that mentality ever so often, though, and I'll still occasionally spend a few days with a particular Blu-ray after I first watch it.

I'm a "once bitten, easily addicted" kind of guy when it comes to a favorite movie (or music artist, etc). I will get into a film and then immerse myself in it for a few days or more. So the answer is that I tend to watch a film repeatedly within a very short time frame.

I have recently did this with Elvis Presley's "That's The Way It Is" (1970). I watched the theatrical version one night and the 2001 cut the next night.

Before that, it was "JFK" (1991). Watched it with Oliver Stone's excellent commentary two times over a 3 or 4 night span.

This is a great thread because I've kinda wondered the same thing before.

For me, I rarely watch a Blu-ray more than 2 times in a year. Often, if I watch one, it will be about a year later. As others have mentioned, I have thrown in some of my favorite movies that I maybe watch 3-6 months prior... and I unfortunately get distracted and bored...even though they are some of my favorites.

The only exceptions for me have been holiday movies (from around Nov.-Dec.) and also Halloween and Vincent Price movies. I can watch the Halloween series (Carpenter) probably about 1-2 months after I've previously watched them. Same with Vincent Price. But especially during the Fall.

I bought the witch when it was released maybe a month ago? And I recently rewatched it a couple days ago. That's pretty rare though, the majority of my blurays can go years before a 2nd viewing.

The Friday the 13th, nightmare on elm street and Halloween series are all watched several times a year

No rule. Some movies I'll watch again during the same week and others years can pass before I get around to them again.

I do pretty much exactly the same thing!

I'm pretty improvisational when it comes to movie viewing. I never really know what I'm going to watch until it actually starts spinning in my Blu-Ray player. Of course, there are those movies that one just has to see on release Tuesday like perhaps the latest James Bond movie or a film favorite that is making it's HD debut. I might watch a movie again 3 months later or it might be 3 years later depending. I use this site to keep track of what I'm watching and I'm determined to take out my "Not Watched" list, so that has limited my repeat viewings. I do watch a handful of films on an annual basis though. North By Northwest, The Maltese Falcon and, of course, Yojimbo are films I never tire of and always work for me no matter what kind of mood I'm in.

About a year. I've watched It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas for years. It takes me about a year to forget a film enough to enjoy a repeat viewing.

I've done it sooner, but usually it's because I get someone else to watch it, or I've watched it on TCM and then purchased the blu-ray.

This is basically me, though not with every film I watch. Some movies I find elements that I want to overanalyze (not nitpick!), and others I haven't seen in maybe 2-3 years, and when I rewatch them, they usually hold up surprisingly well.

I've rewatched both Taxi Driver and Silent Hill immediately after finishing them before.

I usually wait at least a year between viewings (especially if it's a film I've already seen a few times).

If it's a film I'm watching for the 1st time on blu-ray, I still usually probably go at least a year - but sometimes it might be more like months (especially if the first viewing doesn't stick with me). Ironically, if I don't like a film that much I'm quicker to rewatch it... sometimes to give it a 2nd chance before deciding to sell it out of my collection!.

I once watched Memento three times in two days. Theatrical, theatrical with commentary, and the chronological cut. Besides that I usually don't re-watch a movie again anytime soon after watching it.
