Mortal Kombat Trilogy was awesome as well... I was basically just ULTIMATE Ultimate Mortal Kombat III.
![]() I've still enjoyed the series since it went 3D, but it has been missing a certain "something" that the 2D games had. MK vs DC was good in many ways (even with the reduced violence). Despite the Fatalities being more tame due to the T rating, I was still glad to have unique finishing moves for each character again (Mortal Kombat Armaggedon really annoyed me with the "custom" Fatality system). I did get the European import of MK vs DC, though, to get the Joker's unedited gun fatality. Here's to hoping that the next installment is good. Actually MK vs DC had a decent fighting engine, but the T rating kinda hurt the atmosphere. I hope they don't touch the engine at all and just up the gore a lot. Hope they balance the fatals between quick and brutal (like MKII) and borderline theatrical (MK Deception).

Good news but I will wait and see, was dissapointed in MK vs DC, teen rating hurt it and next to impossible challanges (for me at least).
Am I the only one who loved Deadly Alliance with the multiple fighting styles and weapons? |

I just cannot bring myself to be enthusiastic about this. I've always found the Mortal Kombat series to be the weak little brother among bigger fighting games, having a stiff gameplay design and instead trying to pull gamers in with gore and motion captured characters.
When I look at the fluid gameplay and combo systems in game series like BlazBlue, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, Capcom's VS series, Virtua Fighter, King of Fighters, etc, Mortal Kombat just doesn't hold up. Heck, even some games from Bandai that rely heavily on their anime franchise to sell have better game mechanics, like the Naruto or Dragon Ball games. I must admit I gave Mortal Kombat VS DC a shot, as I hoped it would injected something new into the series and the addition of the DC characters does offer a breath of fresh air, but alas, here again the game play is the hindering factor. Slamming opponents through a wall is fun for the first 5 minutes but after that, it grows stale pretty quickly. Hopefully, they'll completely redesign the game play for this next iteration. MKII... Best one of all time for me. The huge leap from Mortal Kombat to Mortal Kombat II is what MK 9 needs to be in comparison to the rest of the series
