Default Question about Panasonic SC-BT200 and optical audio

I will be purchasing the Panasonic SC-BT200 this week and noticed it only has one HDMI output port and 2 optical audio input ports. Since I will be using the HDMI output port to go directly to the TV and use HDMI on my Xbox 360, I was wondering if I could do this : Connect the Xbox 360 to my LCD via HDMI and then connect the TV to the SC-BT200 via Optical Audio. Would this work? Is there a better way? This is really the first home theater system that I have ever bought, so any help is much appreciated.

You will get audio that way. But, it will almost certainly be stereo, not 5.1. TVs have optical outputs to feed DD 5.1 from their own internal tuners, which is the only way that people using off air antennas can get surround sound. TVs pass stereo downmixes from external devices. So, you need to run optical from your Xbox 360 direct to the receiver instead of routing it through the TV.

Thanks for the answer. I have another question though. Don't you have to get a special adapter or something to run optical audio from the Xbox 360? Or is there already a port in the back of the 360. To be honest, I never looked lol.

Never mind I just realized that the elite that I bought comes with the adapter for it. Thanks again for the answer.
