Default How much power?

Between my PS3(old 60gb), my Sony 50" DLP, APC Conditioner, and Onkyo 805... how many KwH do you think this is pulling every day? I'm trying to lower my electricty, am currently using 35-40 kwh a day. Use the home theater about 4-5 hours a night usually...

Edit: May not seem like too much, but electricity is expensive in Alaska, especially during winter.

You can purchase Kill-A-Watt to get a few readings on what you are using:

You can move this on any plug-in to pull up accurate usage of anything you are using.

Cool

I can tell you that running my 50" plasma, receiver, and either blu-ray or PVR, I run about 5 amps, based on readings from my power center. This is at normal volumes, not pushing the amp section of the receiver too much. So assuming 120 volts, that would be 600 watts an hour, or 0.6 kWh.

I can't see your DLP using that much more power. Your receiver may have more power though, and your PS3 will use more power than my standalone and PVR combined. But I still wouldn't think you are running over 1kWh when using your system. So based on 5-6 hours of use, I'd estimate you are under 5-6 kWh for the system per day.

Is your heat electric? Do you have multiple computers that are always on? Multiple appliances that you use regularly? I would say that thay would have more of an impact than the home theatre.

ps3 old80gb, uses 190-200watts while viewing a bluray, and 220-230 while playing a game. so probably the same for your old ps3 60. i was at one point in the past trying to calculate the energy consumption to see what it would take to create a battery backup system so if the power went out, i could still watch blus for a day or so . never did it though.

I was just reading this in the Onkyo thread...

Quote:
Another significant observation, particularly in these times of energy and environmental conservation, is the 805's power consumption. Like other receivers I have checked on, it uses less electricity at idle when it is set to 4 ohm: about 95 watts drawn from the wall as compared to 135 watts when in the 6 ohm setting. More distressing though is that if HDMI-Control is enabled, the 805 will draw 68 watts when completely turned off! Compare that to an almost immeasurable >2 watts when that feature is disabled. What HDMI-Control does is let the Onkyo control another piece of equipment via HDMI. For example, turning on the Onkyo could also turn on a TV or Blu-Ray player connected via HDMI. At my present cost of power, that "convenience" will run me $60 a year. In my opinion, this is a significant waste of power, especially when the same can be achieved through macros on a remote, or other more power miserly means.

The Onkyo doesn't "double down."

Upon further investigation on this topic we have discovered that in most cases the switch is doing nothing more than reducing the rail voltage. Please check out our measurements on page 2 of the Yamaha R-XV4600 review for more information on this.
