I was looking at the prices for both new and used blu-rays on Ebay and have found that many of the current auctions, which haven't even closed yet, are at a higher bid, even before shipping, than what one would pay if they just ordered from Amazon. I couldn't believe it when I saw Constantine, for example, at $12.00 + $2.99 shipping with about two hours left in the auction; this movie has been $7.99 for quite some time on Amazon. I wonder how many people buy on Amazon and then sell on Ebay to make a profit?

It's just stupid people.
You see this quite often with videogames as well. Someone wil pay $47, $48 bucks for a USED copy of a game you can walk into any store and buy new for $49.99. With shipping, costs even more than just trotting your behind down to Wal-Mart or Target and buying it. |

Amazon.com may not be an option for some people...
Credit cards, debit cards, or automatic check withdrawal are the payment options. The last payment option requires that your bank be part of the Automated Clearing house network. The last payment option also has some lengthy steps which includes entering a routing number, account number, driver's license/ID number, and state issued. You have to do this everytime. Its easier to just use PayPal. The other reason people go eBay: Amazon.com does not offer free shipping on all orders. It is free shipping on orders $25 or higher. Shipping is $2.98 for a single DVD/BD and that is for the basic But what about Amazon Prime? Well, if you but regularly from Amazon and I mean enough to offset the $79 fee for Prime then you are just throwing money away just like eBay buyers. Its $3.00 for shipping a single DVD/BD which means you would have to buy 27 DVDs/BDs to make Prime even worth it. By the way Amazon.com is not always the lowest price either. There are plenty of places like Wal-Mart stores, iNet Video.com, Family Video.com, and even Best Buy stores/Best Buy.com to make your purchases. |

I got my first year of Prime for free which is why I signed up for it in the first place. Of course, they got me with the second year because I forgot to cancel. LOL! However, I order a lot of movies, toys, books, etc... on Amazon so all that free 2 day shipping more than makes up for the $70 dollar a year cost. I guess, if you only order one or two movies a year, EBay is a great choice. I just find it hard to believe that any EBayer only buys one or two a year though.
To me, Amazon, plus a Prime membership would be better for almost anyone. Then there's the safety of ordering through Amazon and Amazon merchants. People on EBay can so easily screw you and yes, you can file a complaint with EBay, but man, it's usually a process. Then comes the problems of getting wrong merchandise or damaged merchandise, etc... I just find Amazon so much easier to deal with in every category when it comes to purchasing anything online. I usually only go to EBay as a last resort if I can only find the item there. |

It's all relative. To some people, spending 30 minutes to check prices of all the online retailers, as well as possibly drive around to local stores just may not be worth it. Sure, Amazon may have it for $7.99, but to some spending the extra time to find a movie cheaper isn't worth it, especially when say they paid $9.50, to them chances are it is worth the $9.50, not worth the time to scrap over a dollar or two.
Also, many ebay buyers and sellers have money available in their paypal all the time, and it may just be simpler to use that than have to transfer it to a bank account and wait 3-4 days for the funds to even become available. |
