Default buttkicker amp settings???

hi, i just installed buttkickers into my berkline recliners, and i just have to say WOW!

its not the single transducer amp, its the one that powers 4. i played with the knobs and swithes and i think it sounds great, but im sure it has more to offer...the manual is also very vague in explaing the settings. does anybody have them that have mastered the amp for best possible effect??? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I don't think it is different for 4 or 1 transducer, so the best settings for the amp are with the High Pass Filter on, the Low Pass Filter off with a Crossover at around 40-50Hz and I start with the volume at around 1/2 and adjust accordingly depending on the master volume level used and the movie.

EDIT: I changed the above settings, I had meant to say for the High Cutoff as "On" and the Low Cutoff as "Off."

so by setting the amp to low pass on and to 40-50hz, what does this do? my crossover for my subs are at 80, is this the same thing. if so does setting them at 40-50 mean that the buttkickers will not kick in until a frequency of -30 to -40 hz lower than my subs?? if so, wouldnt there be an issue with this, shouldnt the subs and buttkickers be working at the same time? or do i want them(buttkicker) to only work when a freqency is much lower than when the subs begin to start firing?

im sorry for the stupidness! i have always been into quality surround sound, and car a/v, but never understood frequencys, eqalizers, and surround modes...

To be honest, it depends on what you want. IMO, I don't want to "feel" a simple door shut or a gun shot. I like the Buttkicker to kick in with the lower LFE (like starting at around 40-50Hz). With the lows pass filter off and set at 40-50Hz, the Buttkicker's transducer will not start to rumble until you get a frequency down that low, or anything around 40-50Hz or lower. Of course, the volume knob needs to be adjusted as well on the amp depending on what volume you are watching the movie with on your receiver. Everything will work together, but simply at different crossovers, thats all. Your subs should still work at anything with a frequency at 80hz or lower if that is what your low pass filter/crossover is set at in your receiver.

I have my Low Cutoff turned OFF and the High Cutoff ON. The High Cutoff Frequency is set to 40 and the volume is on the fourth or fifth line.
I find these settings give me all of the low frequencies for explosions and things like that and they are not distracting for normal movie passages.

Here some info on the different Cutoff positions.

With the Low Cutoff in the ON position, frequencies lower than 25 Hz are filtered out. This is ideal for musicians who do not need nor want the ButtKicker to respond to any frequencies below 25 Hz.

When the Low Cutoff is in the OFF position frequencies below 25 Hz are passed on to the ButtKicker. This is ideal for home theater use and the low frequency response the ButtKicker has become known for.

With the High Cutoff in the ON position, frequencies above 40 Hz to 160 Hz are filtered out - only frequencies below 40 Hz to 160 Hz are passed to the ButtKicker based on the position of the High Cutoff Frequency control.
This is ideal for home theater use when only low frequencies are wanted.

Conversely, when used by musicians, leaving the high cutoff switch in the OFF position enables the ButtKicker to respond to all frequencies in its natural working range of 5 - 200 Hz.

so, i was told with the 2 cutoffs set to off, the transducers will activate whenever my sub does cause they will then have the same exact crossover setting from my AVR, is this correct?

Sounds about right, but you might want to rethink whether you want the transducers vibrating every sound that is audbile through the sub. I personally don't care for the vibrations every time a car door shuts or a man with a low voice speaks. I prefer to save the rumble for things such as explosions, trains, earthquakes, etc.

This is why you want to turn "On" the High Pass Filter....then you can adjust the crossover accordingly and it will only vibrate the way you want it to. It is not black or white as far as the vibrations go, the amp can do a lot to tweak the settings exactly to the way you want them. I only like mine to work with explosions, car crashes, etc....and it does that, and only that perfectly with my settings.
