I've said some of this in another thread but it deserves to be shouted...
Miss Sloane is whip-smart. So much so, that you cannot watch the film in a lazy brain mode. You have to be fully alert, willing to concentrate and prepared to be thrown into the middle of a world few of us would ever go. Right away, we are tossed into a scenario where we are treated like we are part of the team, rather than a slow burn where we peer in from a distance and wait for things to develop. This is a universe all on its own and we get to be part of it for close to two hours. This is a woman I doubt any man would want to be involved with, not just because of her cold calculating personality but because the synapse of her mind... the sheer speed at which it fires on 12 cylinders is mind-blowingly unfathomable. Impressive? You have no idea. Riveting? Absolutely but make no mistake, you have to keep up with what's going on and more importantly, Chastain's character because she is a personality you'd fail at chess with every time. She isn't just smart, she is superior... she is literally 100 steps ahead of you in any situation. The BluRay is outstanding in terms of picture quality. If someone had told me this was 4K, I would have believed it. I'm running the disc on a Samsung UBD-M9500 4K player onto a UN65J9500 curved 4K. Bear in mind I use different picture settings for BluRay as I do for 4K discs but with all BluRay's being on equal footing here, the disc looks top notch - 5 out of 5. Sound is tight, clear and no dialogue is lost in ether. Miss Sloane is a must watch, no scrap that, it is a primal necessity for anyone interested in political thrillers, direction, cinematography, fans of Jessica C' or most importantly, script because this reminds me of works by David Mamet. Like any film, it may not be everyone's cup of tea but to me, this piece of art should have won awards, big awards. Last edited by Scottie; 06-14-2017 at 07:26 PM. |

I personally loved the movie as well. I think what has turned off most people is the assumption that Miss Sloane is an anti-2nd amendment film but it was more about the mindset and chaotic life of a lobbyist whose main focus is winning, whatever the cost.
The dialogue is sharp & scathing, and the acting throughout is top-notch. |

This was my favourite film from 2016. Jessica Chastain's performance deserved an Oscar, IMO. Elizabeth Sloane was an amazingly difficult role to pull off - such a ruthless, driven, unpredictable character. Quite often she behaves despicably; other times she shows traces of humanity. This was also quite briskly paced for a 130 minute film - great job from director John Madden. |

So while this movie's plot is inherently political, specifically about gun control, I want to know if it actually pushes an agenda whether it's pro or anti gun (I haven't seen it), I'm not really fond of movies that are purely propaganda.

Politics and guns were basically vehicles for a halfway decent thriller and for a totally awesome Jessica Chastain. It probably won't make any of my 'best of' lists but it was a very enjoyable rental that I'll probably grab on sale down the road. |

Seconded. Felt that it didn’t really push any particular agenda so much as hammer home the way the system is gamed and rigged. Very enjoyable film.

Those last two sentences imply that Jessica Chastain is the only thing that keep this movie from being forgettable. ![]() |

It's very solid overall. I didn't really go into the rental expecting all that much and wound up really enjoying it. It reminds of something like Michael Clayton or Runaway Jury. I'm never exactly eager to rewatch those but I always enjoy them when I do. |

I love this film. On BF, I bought the DVD for $5 didn't know anything about it and didn't see the bluray in the store that night.
Wow I thought it was great, had to watch it a second time. When I saw the bluray price was reduced, I bought it and watched again. Jessica Chastain seems to be making a career out of playing tough as nails. Zero Dark Thirty, The Debt, Molly's Game, A Most Violent Year. I liked Miss Sloane even better than Molly's Game and it equals Zero Dark Thirty. She should have won best actress of either of these two films. I'll definitely be watching this again. It's a tour de force performance. |
