The latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine (detailing Crysis 2) has a seemingly innocent feature called "Second to None" in its news section. Promising "the scoop on three hugely anticipated sequels slated for 2010," the magazine details Batman: Arkham Asylum 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, and inFamous 2. Wait, what? If you didn't notice, one of these three games hasn't been officially announced. The magazine speculates that inFamous 2 will "[pick] up a significant time after the first game, offering a reshaped metropolis." A Sony representative shot down the magazine's report though, stating, "we do not comment on rumor or speculation." While Sony remains hush about an inFamous sequel, it seems reasonable to assume that it's only a matter of time before the game comes to fruition. However, the 2010 date pegged by the magazine is likely speculation: The sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, while announced, hasn't been dated for a release this year. Would both Rocksteady and Sucker Punch be able to turn over sequels to their summer blockbusters just one year after they release? And most importantly, would gamers even want that? |

It seems unlikely, 2010 would only leave a gap of around 12-14 months between development. Given how much optimisation the engine could do with I find it hard to believe that SP would be able to satisfy Sony's requirements for a sequel that fast.
I would love to see InFamous 2, but it seems more likely that we'll get it in 2011 sometime. Killzone 3 will be the big release this Xmas, it should be pretty amazing as they are said to have 60fps working now with 720p native and increased texture detail. I think a lot people love COD without realising why, the 60fps makes the experience super smooth even though the gameplay is pretty medoicre. |

Is this a sure thing or just speculation? I know GG are very hush-hush about their game's progression, but I haven't seen anything anywhere indicating K3 being 9 months away from release.

Development on their engine for Killzone 3 started in 2008. So it would be around 2 years in development.

I think Resistance 3 could be 2011, a lot of people within Sony were upset at how Insomniac tried to force Resistance 2 releasing in the more favourable Xmas window over Killzone 2 which would have benefited more in that window. Starhawk should definitely be up for release this year, and hopefully some others like Agent, but we'll find out at E3. |

Sony let it slide because the games were so good, but now it seems as if Insomniac have been told to shape up or face the boot to multiplatform. Again, we'll see what happens at E3. |

2010 is too soon for a sequel of Batman or Infamous.
There are still a TON of people that have not played the first games yet and neither have hit GOTY/Platinum/Greatest Hits status w/ a lower price to get more people to enjoy both amazing games. I really hope WB and Sony are smart enough not to rush sequels out just to capitalize on the success of the current title. |

I'm curious about Sony's E3 plans this year - as things stand right now, the PS3 doesn't really have a solid winter lineup as far as exclusive games; spring is definitely going to belong to the PS3, but they definitely need to put some more coals on the fire by this summer. I don't really think anyone wants to see Resistance 3 this year. Killzone 3 either. Last Guardian will be a nice surprise "at some point" but it's probably just as niche in its way as Heavy Rain. Gran Turismo 5 is probably going to do well if it doesn't get delayed heavily to add even more features. So it begs the question of what Sony has up their sleeves; a lot of their studios have gone into "silent running" - maybe to gear some launch titles up for their motion controller, I don't know, but in any case I'm getting the distinct impression that quite a lot of the internal development at Sony has gone "into the lab". |

I think you're probably spot-on about inFamous 2 not being on that calendar this year. I've not heard any buzz about it from anyone internal to Sony even in passing, and if it were even vaguely close to completion I'm pretty sure I'd have picked up a hint somewhere - and you'd probably know better than I.
