OVERVIEW

Developed by Tarsier Studios, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic is a PS3 exclusive party-fighting game based on the original 2005 title, Rag Doll Kung Fu, created by Mark Healy (co-founder of Media Molecule). A fast-paced combat game with an imaginative look and feel, Ragdoll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic focuses on fun with exaggerated ragdoll physics action and charming HD visuals. Featuring accessible and intuitive controls, novice players can orchestrate impressive attacks with ninja-like precision, while offering hardcore players an intense combat system, use-of-weapons and strategy. Success depends heavily on players mastering basic Kung Fu moves while sharpening their acrobatic skills by swinging off platforms and somersaulting through the air. This action builds up Chi Power, which can be conjured to perform spectacular SIXAXIS wireless controller-triggered special attack moves and combat sequences. Furthermore, players can taunt their opponents with the Free Pose system, ensuring the battle is infused with lighthearted fun.

Perfect for any social occasion, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic offers frantic multiplayer action for up to four players locally.

FEATURES
  • Accessible Controls – Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic’s pick-up-and-play controls allow for immediate fun for hours or in short bursts; perfect for a social setting
  • Ragdoll Characters – The vibrant HD and 3D plastic characters have limbs and stretchy body parts that move and react in a fun way. Players can also unlock customization assets to create their own characters – offering hundreds of combinations.
  • Multidimentional and Strategic Combat – Players can chain attacks together, pull-off spectacular in-air attacks, use weaponry and environmental objects, and master their Chi-building skills and the Chi-powered special moves, all in 360-degree combat fun.
  • Fun Ragdoll Physics – Ragdoll physics not only give this title its charm, but also ensures that no two hit reactions are ever the same.
  • Online Rankings and Trophy Support – Leaderboards and trophies will motivate players to aspire to both single player and multiplayer high scores!

The trailer on the PlayStation Store looks pretty wowsome running at 60fps.

$9.99 with a demo shortly after release.

Hi, I’m Joshua Miller, the U.S. producer of Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic. It’s been a while since Fists of Plastic made its debut at E3 last year and since its announcement, people have been asking for more details. Well, the time has finally come and I am very pleased (not to mention, very excited) to announce today that Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic will be available for download exclusively on PSN beginning THURSDAY, APRIL 9th!

Before I go even further, please check out this brand new, never-before-seen trailer that shows exactly what to look forward to. If you like what you see and can’t wait until the game comes out, feel free to download this trailer for free and watch it as many times as you like! It is available TODAY on the Playstation Store.

As you can see, we are unloading the craziest cast of fighters for you to unleash some of the nuttiest fighting moves in kung fu history! Using the SIXAXIS wireless controller, not to mention, all the Chi Power you will be earning, you can control the crazy 3D characters and orchestrate in-air, ninja-like attacks, as well as engage in intense combat using weapons and strategy for an all-out, 360-degree assault. And of course, the better you become, the more trophies you earn!

For added fun, players can also unlock body parts to create their own characters, with over hundreds of combinations. These customizable characters can bend, stretch and perform every fighting move with hilarious results.

With plenty of modes and settings to suit both hardcore and casual gamers, Fists of Plastic’s pick-up-and-play controls allow for hours of fun gameplay with up to 4 people locally. Fun for parties, players can create a team-based free-for-all using the King of the Hill, Deathmatch, Dodgeball or Capture the Fish modes.

Whether you’re playing solo or in a group, feel free to check the online leaderboards and compare your game to someone across the globe!

I’m going to leave you with that for now. We will be providing more details — not to mention, more goodies — throughout the next several weeks. So, continue checking back here for the latest on RDKF: Fists of Plastic!

Not the most exciting video but the game is out THIS THURSDAY!

Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic hits PSN this Thursday, April 9, and that means everybody will be kung fu fighting. You already heard from SCEA Producer Joshua Miller who answered your questions about RDKF. And during GDC, we let Mattias Nygren from Tarsier Studios take over the camera, as he walks us through the game’s character customization mode in this video:

This game looks sweet! I got my eye on it ever since it was shown at E3. I'm definitely buying it when it comes out on PSN. I was hoping it would be in 1080p but if runs at 60fps, that'll make up for it!

Anyone played this yet? Is it worth the 10 bucks?

I've been terribly upset with the fighting genre over the past couple years because nobody has done ANYTHING to really spicen up the formula. Soul Calibur 4 for example is an amazing fighting game... because it's the same one that came out a decade ago... in terms of gameplay at least. Tekken 6 looks to be the same deal, the same thing as the original Tekken but with better graphics.

Although Rag Doll looks simple it looks unique enough to change things up a bit. I just want to know if the game actually plays as fun as it looks.

Only two modes were available to play: Capture the Fish and King of the Hill. You begin by selecting your character from the cast of colorful dolls. There's your stereotypical old kung fu master with a wide and toothless grin, or you can choose to fight as the man with the afro and well-manicured mustache. Other characters were available as well, and are so detailed that we could even see if their toenails were painted. Capture the Fish has you grabbing a slippery, floppy fish from a platform and bringing it to the other side of the stage to dump it in a large bowl. Your goal is to bring back the most fish. We only had a chance to play with two players, but up to four people can battle it out to get the prized fish. Weapons will appear, and you can pick them up and slap the other players around to steal their fish--or you can just do it to be annoying.

In King of the Hill mode, you're trying to get to the top-most platform and stay there while your score accumulates. The other players are trying to knock you off by any means possible. Jars are strewn about the level, and you can always chuck one at the head of your opponent. We can picture this mode getting a little hectic when four players are involved.

...

Other modes that we saw in the main menu but didn't get to play with included Deathmatch, Assassin, and Treasure Hunt; we can only guess what these modes will entail.
I think these game modes already make it more interesting that your standard 2nd gen fighting game.
