Default Opinions on my future Setup

I am thinking about my setup I want to do in just under a year, when my wife an I make our hopefully final move when I finish school. I am in the early stages and I am trying to figure out what kind of equipment I should buy. I am gonna throw out what I am considering and want to know what all you guys think.

Receiver
Denon AVR4810CI

Also considering Onkyo receiver possibly.

Speakers:
Couple of options here
Yamaha Performance NS Series - 555, 333, CS444

Also Considering Paradigm, but I am unsure on the cost of them so I cannot pick a certain set, I would love to hear some prices and opinions on their different options.

TV/Projector:
Have not yet made a decision here, just saving space for when I get into looking for them.

Please let me know what you think of the receiver and speakers

Wow! This is way too vague!

Nice receiver for sure but do you really need it?
How big is your room? Do you even know what your future home theater room will look like?

See...

* Most important thing: Don't ask what we think about speakers, you have to do it yourself by going out there and listening to a bunch of them, then get down to a few ones that you like and try them home in their final resting place, with your ears and wife's ears final approval.
It's an adventure, a meticulous process that only you and your wife have to experiment on your own for true total satisfaction.
I've been at it for quite a while, and I feel that I'm still way behind!

*** But I'm a good guy, that Denon AVR-4810CI receiver is one heck of a sweet receiver as far as receivers are concerned.
But those Yamaha speakers, nah, I'd audition some Paradigm Reference Studio 20 speakers for example (front & surround), a Paradigm CC-290 for the center, and paired with an SVS sub for example. Just to get you started in the right direction of course.

And you need a total budget amount including the sub(s), front projector perhaps if you have the room for and enough darkness from it, the screen, the speaker's cables, the HDMI video cables, the audio interconnects, ... It's the sum of all the parts, by steps or all at once. And your room will pretty much dictate what kind of gear you should be looking at, as well your wallet.

I can tell you a lot about the best values on receivers, pre/pros, performance & all, audio quality, video processors, and few speakers too as well subwoofers, and pretty much anything related to the pursuit of audio/video nirvana, but the main part has to come from you first, with giving us more details about EVERYTHING. Then we can assist you in the right direction. ...Makes sense?

Denon makes excellent receivers, as does Onkyo. I have the Yamaha NS-777 towers. IMHO, they are big, beautiful and sound fantastic. And I use the Yamaha NS-6490 3-ways for side and back surrounds. I don't think you can go wrong with the Yammy speakers you have picked out, nor the Denon or Onkyo receiver.

Thanks for the Yamaha endorsement. I have always like Yamaha stuff, but I have heard they have lost a bit on quality, I wish I could afford SOAVO series, but sounds like the NS is a good call.

This is great advice, especially the part in bold.

Thanks. And one of the major reasons I don't frequent "Speakers" threads.
...Or very rarely. It's simply too personal.

Nice Receiver but personnally i would'nt buy Yamaha speakers since it's not their specialty but like lordoftherings said, the choice of speakers is very personal. Paradigm could be a good choice because they do speakers only. My advice would be to listen to many brands of speakers but with the receiver of your choice to see if it is a good match.
Good luck.

Let me say this... I would suggest that you find yourself a dealer, a good dealer and listen to speakers.

Amphion Ion L bookshelf speakers, if you want a speaker with sparkle and great sound that will be more worth your money then anything listed above, check them out... garauntee you buy them. Granted these are closer to $1000 for the pair, but they would be the start to something worth while.

Dali Ikon 1s you can get for $750 a pair.... again, a much, much better speaker for your investment.

I like Yamaha Drums, Pianos, Receivers and other things, their Commercial speakers are good..... BUT I wouldn't buy their HT speakers. They look nice, but there is better speakers out there.

Thanks Alain!

I agree with you too about Paradigm speakers, and of course we both know that as we're both Canadians.
And very true that speakers are a speciality from Paradigm, subwoofers also.
And Anthem is a Paradigm branch too.

I'd go even further by saying that Canadians produce some of the best electronics (Bryston, Anthem, ...) and speakers in the world (PCM, Paradigm, PSB, Mirage, ...).
Also they have some of the best DSP programmers, and with some of the best facilities to test speakers as well some of the very best technical engineers on electronics and speakers. ...And home made too, no OCM, or very few in some brands.
Canadians are simply the real sh*t in Audio stuff.
Ever heard of all those Audio gurus from the speakers' analysis sector, and sound propagation in both Stereo & Surround? Floyd Toole on Sound Reproduction, Acoustics & Psychoacoustics? The NRC (Canada)?
Ever heard of Odyssee Motion Simulator for D-Box Technology?

You wouldn't believe all the smart technical professional Audio people that work in Canadian cities and towns, from the East coast to the West Coast (Lions Gate studios, with their 7.1-channel discrete audio surround mixes). Recording audio engineers, for U2, Bob Dylan, ... Daniel Lanois?
Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Vancouver...
