Default Does the quality of your HDMI matter

Does it really make a difference in what you use. What cable do you have and recommend.

The $1 cables work just as well as the expensive ones so just get a cheap one and let the good times roll.

some of them are made of poor materials and are not shielded properly. Those are pretty obvious to spot. However the cheapo cables at monoprice are excellent quality. Never looked backed.

From my experience and from everything I have read if you are using a cable less than 6' any cable will work. The longer the run I would suggest getting a better cable. By better cable am I recommending something like Monster. I have a 35' from monoprice that is VERY well made and cost around $35.

Absolutely not, a digital signal like that sent through a HDMI cable is either on or off.

I'm using cables from monoprice.com also and they perform perfectly.

On a side note, if you order from monoprice, order your cables in different colors. It makes it MUCH easier to keep track of what's what behind your setup.

I've also read that longer runs (like over 50') benefit from better cables.

Also be aware that we have a sticky thread dedicated to HDMI cable discussion here.

Assuming the cable is built according to specs & is built correctly it will perform just as any other HDMI cable!
The difference is how well they are built with the wire twist between the pairs and internally also how well they are terminated, do they have shielding etc!!!
It's all about how much data gets to the set from point a to b, the more data you get to point b the better you are, with a generic cable you may experience ghosting, dropouts or freezes which is what happened to me when I got my new plasma TV I ended buying 3 cheap cables & all failed on me & one was incredibly bad when it came to dropouts, I even had to call the manufacturer to come & test my tv cause I thought there was something wrong with it, but it wasn't the tv it was the hdmi cables I was using!!!
In the end I purchased an:
IXOS XHT458-200 HDMI
Cause MONSTER aint the only brand out there, Anyway my problem was fixed straight away, I could tell from the moment I was opening the packet the cable was very well built & I don't regret paying the extra money what so ever, hope this info helps
