Hey everyone I finally got my new speaker's in today got everything hooked up. To make a long story short. I went and did the auto setup calibration on my receiver. Now the bass sucks. I did everythign that I know to adjust it. I got it sounding a little better buts only after I rasied the db up 2 notches and raised the gain on the subs to 50%. BUT I'm still not getting the same bass responce after doing my upgrade. The only thign different now is that I was suing shelf speaker's that were easily over 10 years old and got new tower speaker's what am I missing. My gear is in my signature.
p.s. could my new speakers be throwing my sub's out of wak or something. is that even possible.? |

Don't worry. It could be a couple of things. Audyssey may have changed your speaker crossovers to full-range or something. I recently changed my crossovers of all my speakers to 100hz. That would be the first thing to check. You should also recalibrate your speakers and subs to 75dB because Audyssey changed the levels of your speakers. You're also going to have to check and possibly adjust the distances in your 805. I had my 805 screw up the distances on my subs before and I had to flip the phases on both of my subs and then readjust the distances in the receiver.

do NOT run your towers at full range. you may have them set to "large". change them to "small" in the receiver's menu. cross them over ~80hz, and you should be good to go...

as long as the crossovers are set to 80, you should be fine with not setting to Large or Small. Pretty sure if they are set to Large, it just puts the crossover to Full Band.... my onkyo 804 doesnt have a large/small setting, not sure about the 805...

I mean I got my new towers calibrated and poof...... by by all my great and beautiful wonderful bass sound. I just don't understand why my bass went away with the new speaker's is there something else I cna do that someone hasn 't thought of yet.

I feel I got piss poor room acoustics so I'm gona try a commbination of a few things. Move both subs and stack them in the corner, and or also turn off the aud. and do manual and turn the subs freq db's up a bit. gonna try that a bit and see what I get. Do you think this will help, hurt, or do anythign to any of my equipment.

Did you change all of the settings in the receiver and on the subwoofers? If you went and checked each of the settings I mentioned, you should have even better bass than before. It's not a conspiracy. Audyssey changed all of your settings, even if they were right before. Did you run the Audyssey at all possible positions? Did you use a tripod and were you in the room? Was the tripod at ear level? If you answered no to any of those, then you need to rerun Audyssey exactly that way to get the best results. Auto calibration is very complex and it's the little things that make a difference. Also, if you have an SPL meter, you need to check that both of your subwoofers are individually calibrated to 75dB before you calibrate both together. You should also make sure that the distance (in the receiver menu) for your subwoofers are accurate, as that makes a difference in phase. Calibration is complex and tedious, but if it's done right, the results are phenomenal.

Okay. But do make sure you check those settings. Unfortunately, there is no easy way around messing around with the settings. If you had even decent bass before, then you can have even better bass now.
