Default Are you a Blu-Ray/HDTV/Surround Sound Snob?

So. Are you a Blu-Ray/HDTV/Surround Sound Snob?
  • You won't listen to anything unless it's in 5.1 or greater.
  • You won't watch anything on your TV unless it's in HD. And you will search through the HD channels first on cable before resorting to SD.
  • You won't watch a movie unless it's on Blu-Ray (barring any movie that hasn't come out yet on BD)
If you answer Yes to all the above then you are a snob! And by snob I don't mean you look down on people that don't own blu-ray/hdtv/ss.

I'm a snob. Now that I have an HDTV, whenever I go to watch TV, i search through the HD channels first. Now that I own a PS3, i won't watch any movie unless it's in Blu-ray. And now that I have my first 5.1 surround system, I can see myself checking every source to make sure it's in 5.1.

Guilty!

In fact, I won't even watch SD TV. If I can't find something good on HD, I'll put on a movie, fire up Halo, do work, or harass my wife.

I used to do all three of those things but I guess I've gotten over it. I watch DVDs if they're not out on blu-ray and watch SD channels all the time.

I only watch TV, and movies in HD.

I also feel the same way about AQ since I own a 5.1 Energy setup.

I'll watch SD content, but only if there's nothing on the HD channels. I'll also watch movies on DVD if they're not out on blu yet. For anything in stereo, I set my receiver to matrix it into 5.1.

And nowadays I'm not really interested in watching TV anywhere but home.

What if the movie was made in mono or stereo?

I can only answer yes to the third one. I still watch a lot of SD (mostly soccer matches) and while I listen to a lot of dvd-a/sacd in 5.1 I don't mind listening to 2-channel either. Simply put, I watch/listen to whatever best format is available, be it SD or HD and stereo or 5.1.

Absolutely. I always cringe when I get invited to a movie night at some friends house. DVD only, square SD tv, 2 channel audio. That's not a movie night, that is airline inflight entertainment. Even when they finally got an HDTV, still tv speakers only and DVD.

Tell me they at least have "evolved" past full screen.

Didn't know that some are still backwards.

That's the worst. Most of my closest friends now know that when a movie night gets planned it will be at my house.

Absolutely! Anything I want to watch, I will only watch it in the best quality possible. I dread being invited over to someone else's house to watch a movie or game (if they don't have HD).

I like the idea of Netflix streaming, but I haven't even watched a complete show/movie, because even the HD is not nearly as good as Blu-ray, and is only in STEREO Even DVD is 5.1. Plus I'm one of the few that watch special features.

I am perfectly willing to watch something in SD and stereo sound, if that's all that's available (although if the sound is mono or stereo, I'll matrix it to 6.1), but if there's even a whiff that it will be available on Blu-ray, I'll wait as long as it takes before I watch it (Still waiting for Stardust).

I much prefer 5.1 tracks but I'm not so picky about this, given it's TV. Movies on the other hand, anything less would drive me crazy.

I only watch one thing in SD, and it's not by choice. You'll only catch the SD on my set when the Pokes are playing, the Big 12 Network sucks!

Agreed, I got rid of all my DVD's pretty quick after getting into BD and all my friends know that I won't watch DVD's and they don't even bring them over anymore.

Same here! I catch crap from friends all the time, saying "Oh, I forgot you're too good for DVD's" I've spent enough on my set up that I reserve the right to be a snob about what I watch on my TV!

Guilty!
- The only thing less than 5.1 I listen to is my iPhone. 5.1 minimum or depending on the BD 7.1 for me (Hellboy II was awesome with 7.1)
- I cannot stand watching anything SD partly because anything SD looks like garbage on my screen and because I have been spoiled by BD awesomeness.
- DVDs do not exist for me anymore, I do not go near them whatsoever
