Australia Amazon opening in Australia

Couldn't find the thread this conversation began on, but now it all becomes clear:

http://www.smh.com.au/it-pro/cloud/a...621-20q6y.html

It's not an online shop Amazon is opening in OZ, but a branch of its Edge network of "cloud" data storage. Huh.

My precious thread was deleted. All that work oh well, it's good enough for us
I don't even know what these services are! How many people requested a warehouse over data centre, yet they build a data centre.! Unbelievable.

Wait, so it wont be selling DVDs and Blu-Rays? only hosting data? That is a big disappointment.

Yep, according to the article, that's all they're doing. Whether something more will follow, I guess we can only hope.

Agreed. Though, honestly, I couldn't see it ever happening. I doubt Amazon will be able to sell any cheaper than existing online retailers in Australia; if it sells local product, it will still have the same problem with distributor pricing that every other retailer struggles with; and if it sells imported product, it will have to deal with both licensing restrictions and freight costs.

Ah well.
