Default Question about in wall wiring for a turntable....

Hey y'all... so Im running all my speaker wires etc in wall... for a nice clean look... now Im wondering... my TT is gonna be on another wall away from my amp/recvr.... Im wondering all I need to run in wall will be the regular red/white audio cable right???? Basically they will terminate to wall plate for audio... then go right to my recvr... is that all I need for an in wall installation... I know Ill need to get a preamp... but one step at a time

Im just about to throw up the sound proofing so I want to make sure Im done with the wiring for my future tt...

Cheers in advance...

I would make sure you are running double shielded cable if not you might have a ground humming issue. When I hooked up my first turntable I used unshielded Tara cables and I had huge hum issue. It was easily fixed.

I just purchased a 25ft long RCA cable (Red/White) from monoprice... and ran it through the studs... kept it away from any and all electrical... it runs near the speaker wire... but nothing major... how did you fix the ground issue???

Did you run in wall too???

Cheers in advance!

It is not really a ground issue but it is more of a hum issue due to the fact the cables are unsheilded. I tried mono price cables once on my Pro-Ject table and I had a very large hum issue. I am afraid you might have an issue.

I believe blue jeans cables are double shielded and those worked well when I ran them through the wall. I am currently using Nordost Dreamcaster Analog Interconnect run through the wall and they sound great.

I'm not sure it's wise running that long a cable for phono. Phono signals are really small and are very susceptible to damage. If you must set up your system this way, I'd opt for having a phono stage near your TT and then running the output of that through the walls.

I second this motion. Pony up for a good phono stage co-located with the turntable and have the long cable run come out of the phono stage. This also eliminates the need to run an additional ground wire.

Or what if I went this route and bought a dedicated amp for my TT... like one of these...
http://www.elusivedisc.com/products.asp?dept=172

So basically hook up my TT to that... then just run the speaker wires in the wall to my 2 fronts... now if thats the case.... those guys are alrdy hooked up to my home theatre... can the 2 fronts be hooked up to 2 sep recvr's/amp's at the same time????

If not I guess the only option would be to just would be to run speaker wire from my TT amp to each of the front speakers wall plates and just switch back an forth when I want the home theatre to be connected or when I want to listen to my tt?? Hope that makes sense?

Cheers in advance!

Just my opinion, but this option seems unnecessarily complicated and expensive. If you're happy with your receiver, there's no reason to get a whole other powered amplifier. Just get a good phono preamp (which will inevitably be less expensive than a whole new amp) and run some quality, in-wall rca cable from the phono stage to one of the line-level inputs on your receiver. It's simple and clean.
