Default ChopsRR's Apartment Home Theater

I guess it's about time I start a little thread here about my system as it's gone through some major changes in the past few weeks. Since I have my entire system listed in my signature below, I'll just go ahead and post up the pics. I just took these today after repositioning the X-Statik's (mains) and moving the Wii to the bedroom system.

And here we go...

Serious equipment for an apartment. Do your neighbors hate or love you?

LOL! Nah, they don't even know we're here. This is the first time for me living in an apartment (for the past two years now), so I keep things down to a low roar. The only time I get it somewhat loud is during the day during the week when most everyone in the building is gone at work.

Thank you Jeff!

It's come a long way in just the past few weeks. I mean, I already had all of the gear, but I just upgraded the receiver and bought two subs as well as reinstating my front three AV123 speakers. That made all the difference in the world. The HT system was run as a 6.0 setup since we moved into this apartment 2 years ago. No sub(s) and no center channel kind of made me lose interest in the whole HT scene for a while, plus having to get behind the system and swap HDMI cables around if we ever wanted to watch anything with the projector. So for the longest time we just watched TV on the plasma, very rarely watched any DVD's or Blu-Ray's, and even more rarely put the screen down and fire up the projector.

Now with the new receiver, as you can see above, I have the ability to have both the plasma and projector connected at all times, thanks to the Onkyo TX-NR809 having dual HDMI outputs. That alone was my main reason for wanting to upgrade receivers. Although, having the network and internet capabilities is a great bonus as well as being able to have full control of the receiver and PS3 (via HDMI CEC) with my iPad and oRemote app. That's the best 5 bucks I spent on an app!

Putting my AV123 speakers back in use got me back up to 7.0 status. These speakers sound great with movies and even better with music, and don't really need a sub with music, but obviously lack in the bass department when it comes to movies. This is where the two Polk PSW505 subs come into play. Having them in two totally different locations in the room really helps too. Both with music and movies, the bass simply "appears" in the room. No matter where you sit in the room, you can not tell where the bass is coming from, even though one of the subs in right in the corner of the couch and love seat, no less than about 2 to 4 feet from your ears.

For whatever reason, this is the first time I've ever run dual subs in different locations like this in my own system. I used to do this all the time for clients when I was in the hifi/HT business, but never in my own system. Don't ask, because I don't know myself. At any rate, I'm glad I did in my current system.
