Default Is my Plasma dead?

I have a Panasonic TH-50PZ85u which seems to have succomb to the blinking red light of death...7 blinks. This is exhaustedly detailed on avsforums.

Essentially, the issue seems to be with two boards that have gone bad and need to be replaced. Its a known issue with the Panny displays, but not publicly acknowledged by Panasonic.

I'm out of warranty by a few months. Not sure what to do. I only paid $1250for the display, but was not planning to buy a new TV at this point.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, my apologies if this exists anywhere else in the threads...my search didn't turn up results.

Did you buy it with a credit card which doubles the warranty?

In addition to the credit card, did you get a service plan on it. If so and are still under that plan you might get a new TV. Places like Best Buy just give you a new TV which is better than repairs. Repairs cost so much these days I think for the store its just easier to give you a new model.

It was purchased from Circuit City when they were going out of business...no extended warranty.

I paid by credit card, but do not believe the warranty was extended because of this.

Not really, Panasonic is still going focus in Plasma. They had hire those Pioneer Plasma Engineer. They are focus are making thinner and more energy saving that also gave deel black plasma, I not sure if Samsung going to make Plasma since they had receive several complain of the buzz noise.. No other company is making Plasma.

Just give Panny a call and see what they say. You may get lucky, and they may give you a little leeway with your warranty. It doesn't hurt to ask.
