Default BD's for the Kids

For my almost-3 year old son, I already own most of the popular animated movies (Happy Feet, Bug's Life, Sleeping Beauty, Polar Expres, etc.etc). I have Narnia coming (he's really into acting-out, and Dragon's & Knights - he loves his Nerf swords he got for Xmas), Ghostbusters, Labrynth and Dark Crystal (which might be too "dark" for him, but he owns The Nightmare Before Christmas and isn't scared by that, but we'll see..).

I want to get some superhero flicks for him so I'm thinking of the 1966 Batman movie and the first Superman movie as well. Would anyone agree to start with these? I think he's too young for the darker Batman movies (Begins and Dark Knight). What about Spiderman? Should I get him the first Spiderman movie that came out a few years ago?

Any other suggestions welcomed. I figured this thread might be good for any parents out there with children.

If you want Spider-Man you need to buy the trilogy to get it. I say -
Big
Ghostbusters
Home Alone
Home Alone 2
The Mask
Night at the Museum 1 & 2
PotC 1-3
Scooby Doo
Sky High
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set
Transformers 1986 import

The first couple of movies in the X-Men series would be my choice for superhero. My kids loved Dragonheart, huge rewatch value for them, for the Knights genre; don't know if it's out on Blu though. Coraline is fantastic as well, given that the Nightmare before Christmas was passable.

He was a little older.....but Sky High was a favorite of my son when he was like 6 or 7.
Too bad The Rocketeer isn't out, I love that film.

Ghostbusters is a bit much for a 3-yr. old, I agree....my son watched it at 8 and was a little scared, but maybe Igor? When he was four he had a spell where he watched the first Spiderman a bunch and would watch it over and over.

I also like the animated ORIGINAL Chuck Jones/ Dr. Seuss discs, Grinch and Horton. Coraline is great and he enjoyed 9, as well as the Ice Age films.

Also the Spy Kids trilogy were a big hit with mine, as well as comedies like Daddy Daycare, Rebound, Cheaper by the Dozen...

my son's 8 and most his favourite films from a few years back were any of the pixar/disney, he loved(s) dinosaur and chicken little. As far as non animated he was watching Pirates of the Caribbean an the Spidermans film at around 4yo. I'd def say Dark Knight and Begins are to much for much for a 3yo, my son watched BB at 6 and hes watched half of dark knight before it was bit bit much.
Ghoustbusters is def to much for 3yo.

So I'd look at:
Spideman Triology
Fantastic 4 (as a second superhero choice)
Pirates of the Caibbean
Anything by Pixar & Dreamworks
Scooby Doo
G force
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Night at the Museum 1 & 2
Ice Age trilogy

Remember, your son's only 3. I suggest exposure to a variety of films aimed at both boys and girls(not just "boys" movies), like more Disney movies.

And none of what the guy above me posted. quality family entertainment is for the whole family.

He might enjoy Batman Forever/Batman & Robin so you could get the Batman Anthology, and you could enjoy the first two and show him them later. You could also get Justice League Season One, though it is 4:3 it's a great cartoon, kids love the heroes, and the stories and writing is great..... any Pixar/Disney/general animation films, Fantastic Four films, Night at the Museum 1/2, etc.......
