Default Best software to take a high rez shot

I have an HD blu ray rip on my computer. I can run it on VLC. What's the best way to screenshot an image on high rez. I'm thinking something better quality than print screen.

VLC will let you take a snapshot (png, jpg, tiff) within the program. An external screen grabber program probably isn't going to do much better with it.

ughh...was hoping for someone better that would go through the video and get a good grab. But I guess VLC it is.

png or tiff are lossless formats, so I really doubt an external program would do any better than VLC would to capture.

You can use a program like ScreenHunter or Snagit, but it's just going to grab the 0's and 1's as you see them output on your screen. If you want to save it as a jpg file, that's lossy...so an external program could perhaps do a little better.

Taking a picture with VLC is higher quality than using print screen. Just press Shift-S in VLC and it will save the picture in png format.

You'll have to elaborate.

VLC, MPC or PotPlayer will all allow PNGs or BMPs for captures, you're not going to get much better than that. VirtualDub can do a lot more, but if you're setting up the player's correctly, there won't be much difference.

What can I set up on VLC that will make it better?

Haven't got VLC on this PC, but you want to select .PNG for your file captures and make sure the output resolution matches the source.

Post if you need any further help and I'll get back to you tomorrow.
